Burnout in Cardiac Anesthesiologists: Results From a National Survey in Italy

2018

Objective There is increasing burnout incidence among medical disciplines, and physicians working in emergency settings seem at higher risk. Cardiac anesthesiology is a stressful anesthesiology subspecialty dealing with high-risk patients. The authors hypothesized a high risk of burnout in cardiac anesthesiologists. Design National survey conducted on burnout. Setting Italian cardiac centers. Participants Cardiac anesthesiologists. Interventions The authors administered via email an anonymous questionnaire divided into 3 parts. The first 2 parts evaluated workload and private life. The third part consisted of the Maslach Burnout Inventory test with its 3 constituents: high emotional exhaust…

Burnout and depression among Spanish periodontology practitioners.

2009

Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of burnout syndrome and depression symptoms among periodontology practitioners, as well as the relationship with socio-demographic variables and work stress. Study Design: A total of 284 subjects, members of the Spanish Society of Periodontology (SEPA), were selected for this study. The Spanish version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and the Tetradimensional Estructural Questionnaire for Depression (TEC-DE) were sent by post to all participants. Descriptive statistics in addition to mean comparison and chi-square test were used for data analysis. Results: A response rate of 59.85% was obtained. From the total sam…

Persistent psychogenic déjà vu: a case report.

2014

Introduction: Déjà vu is typically a transient mental state in which a novel experience feels highly familiar. Although extensively studied in relation to temporal lobe epilepsy as part of simple partial seizures, déjà vu has been less studied in other clinical populations. A recent review of temporal lobe epilepsy suggested a possible link between clinical levels of anxiety and debilitating déjà vu, indicating further research is required. Here, for the first time in the literature, we present a case study of a young man with anxiety and depersonalisation who reported experiencing persistent and debilitating déjà vu. This report therefore adds to the limited literature on the relationship …

Consumer Culture

2013

The debate on standardization versus adaptation is everywhere apparent and addresses the question whether and to what extent consumer behaviour differs between countries. While some studies confirm the assumption of one single pan-European market, another stream of research emphasizes that European countries continue to possess predominantly distinct market identities and favour multi-regional strategies. Thus, in the tension between worldwide standardization, national customization, and hybrid approaches such as “glocalization,” the aim of this chapter is to shed light on the importance of cultural differences and similarities in international marketing. After discussing the meaning of cul…

Message-driven factors influencing opening and forwarding of mobile advertising messages

2015

This work aims to analyse the influence of message-driven factors -informativeness, ubiquity, frequency and personalization- on consumer attitude and behaviour -opening and forwarding- towards mobile advertising messages. A theoretical model was developed and empirically tested using a sample of 355 Spanish teenager mobile users. Findings show that frequency is the dimension accounting the most -and significantly- of the four message-driven factors analysed on attitude toward mobile advertising. Attitude has a significant effect on acceptance of mobile advertising messages. Message-driven factors – in a direct way and indirectly through attitude toward mobile - lead to consumer opening and …

2020

Abstract This study examines the effects of personalization and hedonic motivation on customer experience and its loyalty outcomes in omnichannel retail context. The study develops eight hypotheses which are tested using two survey samples (Finland (n = 2084) and Sweden (n = 2334). In addition, empirical analysis includes 20 semi-structured interviews. The findings support all the hypotheses confirming the positive relationships personalization and hedonic motivation have on cognitive and emotional customer experience components. Further, the positive effects of customer experience on loyalty are confirmed. The results provide both theoretical and managerial insights for improved CX and cus…

The "PC-WIRED" study: Patient Centred Evolution of Websites of Italian Radiotherapy Departments.

2021

Abstract Objectives The aim of this paper was to conduct a survey about the evolution of the information provided by Italian radiotherapy departments with a special focus on patients’ perspective. Methods A two-steps analysis was conducted in 2013 and 2020. Starting from analysis of data for the existing websites of Italian radiotherapy departments, main potential areas of interest for patients were discussed within a dedicated multidisciplinary team composed of radiation oncologists, a web designer, a blogger, a psyco-oncologist, a volunteer and a representative of patients’ association. Results Six patient-oriented features to evaluate the websites of Italian radiotherapy departments were…

Duopoly and Product Design

2014

Competition in product design is considered in the context of a circular duopoly model where each duopolist can choose either a standardized design or a customized version of its product. We examine the circumstances that lead to multiple equilibria, and characterize the type of equilibrium as a function of both the customization costs and the lower bound on the degree of customization. In the welfare analysis, it is shown that the degree of customization offered in equilibrium can be substantially different from the socially optimal level of this variable.

Validation of indicators for implementing an adaptive platform for MOOCs

2017

Personalization techniques are a classic solution recommended by many experts for improving learning. Information and communication technologies and online courses have helped reduce the difficulties teachers face with a diversity of student profiles and a large number of students in a classroom. When these factors are extreme, like in a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), those techniques may be the solution. However, even the most sophisticated technologies have not solved all the challenges posed by personalized learning, and in cases where teachers are not skilled in the technology they must use, the adaptive systems have only complicated the implementation of online courses. Therefore, …

Intellectual Ability Data Obtaining and Processing for E-Learning System Adaptation

2012

In this article authors describe how an e-learning system can obtain data about learner, so that later it could offer individual content for each learner, based on the obtained data. Authors also describe how the Learning Management System (LMS) Moodle has adapted a standard quiz module interface for testing elementary school students and how students’ individual abilities could be measured more efficiently, for example, by measuring mathematical reaction time. For obtaining necessary testing results and partial processing a new module (TAnalizer) is offered, which is adapted to the Moodle environment. With this module one can gain precise data about each student’s testing process and stude…
