A reliable and environmentally-friendly liquid-chromatographic method for multi-class determination of fat-soluble UV filters in cosmetic products.

An environmentally-friendly analytical method for the simultaneous determination of 15 fat-soluble ultraviolet (UV) filters currently authorized by the European Union regulation on cosmetic products has been developed. The determination was performed by liquid chromatography with UV spectrophotometric detection. Different parameters, such as type of column, oven temperature, mobile phase composition and flow rate were studied. Effect of the milling conditions on the degree of amorphization of selenium by milling in a planetary ball mill

The effect of the milling parameters (rotation speed of the milling device and duration of milling) on the phase composition of the products of milling of fully crystalline selenium has been investigated. The milling was conducted using a planetary micromill and the phase composition of the milling products was determined by differential thermal analysis. It has been found that ball milling leads to the partial amorphization of the starting crystalline material. The content of amorphous phase in the milling products depends, in a rather complicated way, on the milling parameters. Abstract The problems associated to the modelling and optimisation of the chromatographic resolution of mixtures involving ionisable solutes at varying pH and acetonitrile content are discussed. Several retention models that separate the contributions of solute, column and stationary phase, were used. The retention was predicted with low errors in large pH domains (2–12), which was an essential requirement to face the optimisation of resolution. The selected mixture was particularly problematic under the viewpoint of resolution, owing to the excessively diverse acid–base behaviour of solutes. Description of the retention behaviour of solutes in micellar liquid chromatography with organic modifiers: Comparison of two methods

Two methods for the description of the retention behaviour of solutes in micellar liquid chromatography are compared. One of them divides the parameter space into triangular subspaces, fitting a different equation in each subspace. The second method makes use of a unique equation, valid in the whole parameter space. In both cases, equations of the type log k=f (μ, ϕ), and 1/k=f (μ, ϕ), (μ and ϕ are the concentration of surfactant and alcohol, respectively), were used to describe the retention. Abstract Cerium yttrium aluminum garnet (Ce:YAG, CexY3-xAl5O12) nanoparticles doped with different cerium amount were obtained by calcining the precursors synthesized via co-precipitation in w/o microemulsion for 1 h at 900 °C. The structural and morphological properties were investigated by using X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Infrared Spectroscopy (IR) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) coupled with Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) in order to investigate the effect of doping level on formation and microstructure of obtained nanoparticles. The chemical synthesis is a leading route for the purposeful design of nanomaterials, whereas the tungsten oxides are employed in a variety of special applications. The production of nanomaterials by traditional synthetic methods is still a cumbersome multistep procedure. Here we propose an improved method to produce tungsten oxide nanoparticles via a pyrolytic process. A tungsten-containing precursor was prepared by liquid extraction using n-trioctylamine (C8H17)3N solution in toluene. Abstract Defect spinel phase lithium titanate (Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 ) has been suggested as a promising negative electrode material for next generation lithium ion batteries. Flame spray pyrolysis has been shown to be a viable fast, one-step process for synthesis of nanoparticulate Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 . However, due to the rapid quenching that is integral to the process the crystallite size remain very small and non-uniform. To overcome this shortcoming a vertical flow tube furnace was used to increase the high-temperature residence time. Zur Untersuchung der Korrosion von Stahlblechen wurde die mosbauerspektroskopische Phasenanalyse in Transmissions- und Streugeometrie eingesetzt. Die Korrosion von Stahlblechen fuhrt in einer Atmosphare von geringer Korrosivitat nach langen Expositionszeiten vorwiegend zu den relativ stabilen β-Phasen der moglichen Fe-Korrosionsprodukte. Microstructure and phase composition of bronze Montefortino helmets discovered Mediterranean seabed to explain an unusual corrosion

AbstractTwo Monterfortino helmets, recovered in the Mediterranean seabed, show unusual features with respect to the more common helmets of the same period and found in underwater environments. Hence, they were investigated by a multi-analytical approach, which allowed us to identify the compounds constituting the helmets and to make some considerations about their metallurgy, although all the metal was converted to degradation products. The helmets, originally made in bronze, have maintained their original shape because of copper sulphides formation.
