Abstract A new class of biocompatible and scalable phospholipid vesicles was developed, aiming at improving the efficacy of baicalin on the skin. Phosphatidylcholine and baicalin (a natural polyphenol) were hydrated in two steps with a mixture of ethanol, glycerol, and propylene glycol at different ratios, and a low amount of water (4%). Hence, water was almost completely replaced by the co-solvents, which were never used before as predominant dispersing medium of phospholipid vesicles. Abstract A rapid high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method for the separation of phospholipids was developed for minute samples of total lipids (ca. 200 μg). The method was applied to the study of the phospholipid metabolism in adrenocortical cell cultures. A complete separation of the different cellular phospholipid classes was achieved in 40 min. The D-3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (BDH) (EC 1.1.1.30) from liver jerboa (Jaculus orientalis), a ketone body converting enzyme in mitochondria, in two populations of mitochondria (heavy and light) has been studied in different jerboa states (euthermic, prehibernating and hibernating). The results reveal: (1) important variations between states in terms of ketones bodies, glucose and lipid levels; (2) significant differences between the BDH of the two mitochondrial populations in term of protein expression and kinetic properties. Some MPs are integral membrane proteins that interact with the membrane of the endoplasmic reticulum, but a detailed understanding of the interaction between MPs and biological membranes has been lacking. The cell-to-cell movement of the Prunus necrotic ringspot virus (PNRSV) is facilitated by a single MP of the 30K superfamily.
