Biopsychosocial Profiles of Patients With Cardiac Disease in Remote Rehabilitation Processes : Mixed Methods Grounded Theory Approach
2021
Background: Digital development has caused rehabilitation services and rehabilitees to become increasingly interested in using technology as a part of rehabilitation. This study was based on a previously published study that categorized 4 groups of patients with cardiac disease based on different experiences and attitudes toward technology (e-usage groups): feeling outsider, being uninterested, reflecting benefit, and enthusiastic using. Objective: This study identifies differences in the biopsychosocial profiles of patients with cardiac disease in e-usage groups and deepen the understanding of these profiles in cardiac rehabilitation. Methods: Focus group interviews and measurements were c…
Stages of Exercise Behavior Change in a Digital Wellness Program for Aged People : Relationship With Self-Efficacy for Exercise
2022
Sustained physical activity and exercise are central to healthy ageing. Yet, the majority of aged people are insufficiently physically active. Digital wellness technologies are potential in promoting exercise behaviors among aged people, but more detailed research on their potential to promote behavior change is limited. To address this gap, the purpose is to investigate how partaking in a digital wellness program influences the stage of exercise behavior change among aged people and to test whether self-efficacy for exercise can differentiate the program participants in terms of the stages of change. The investigation builds on the stages of exercise behavior change derived from the transt…
Understanding physical activity in adolecents with cerebral palsy from a self-determination theoretical perspective : a mixed method case study
2018
Ruiz Egea, Alfredo, 2018. Understanding physical activity in adolescents with cerebral palsy from a self-determination theoretical perspective: a mixed method case study. Master´s Thesis in Sport and Exercise Psychology. Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences. University of Jyväskylä. 75 p. The amount of research in cerebral palsy has augmented considerably during last twenty years. Increasing functional capacity in population with cerebral palsy, through physical activity has been the main goal of the research in this field during the past decades. Research sustains its effort in a basic assumption, that an increase in functionality will be followed by an increase in physical activity behavi…
Physical Activity in Peri-Urban Communities: Testing Intentional and Implicit Processes within an Ecological Framework.
2020
Background Given the substantive health inequalities in peri‐urban communities and the potential for physical activity to promote health in these communities, identifying modifiable physical activity determinants in this population is important. This study explored effects of the peri‐urban environment and psychological constructs on physical activity intentions and behavioural automaticity guided by an integrated theoretical framework. Methods Peri‐urban Australians (N = 271) completed self‐report measures of environmental (i.e. physical/social environment, and neighbourhood selection), motivational (i.e. autonomous motivation), and social cognition (i.e. attitudes, norms, and perceived be…

Predicting Change in Middle School Students’ Leisure-Time Physical Activity Participation: A Prospective Test of the Trans-Contextual Model
2020
We applied the trans-contextual model (TCM) to examine the effects of middle school students’ perceived autonomy support from their physical education (PE) teachers on autonomous motivation toward PE in school and, critically, autonomous motivation toward, and actual participation in, leisure-time physical activity (PA). The research adopted a three-wave prospective design enabling the modeling of change in the TCM constructs over time. Middle school students (N = 248) aged from 12 to 16 years reported their perceived autonomy support, autonomous motivation in PE, autonomous motivation toward leisure-time PA, attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control (PBC), intentions for PA…
Effect of self-determined motivation in physical education on objectively measured habit physical activity : a trans-contextual model
2019
Grounded in the trans-contextual model, the purpose of the present study was to examine the role of self-determined motivation in Physical Education (PE) on self-determined motivation in Physical Activity (PA), PA intention, and accelerometer-measured habitual PA behavior among high-school aged adolescents. A sample of 394 Spanish high-school students (211 males and 183 females; aged 12-16 years) participated in the present study. The outcome measure of PA was established using accelerometry, whereas motiva- tion toward PA and PE as well as PA intention were measured using validated questionnaires. Path analyses supported in part the central propositions of the trans-contextual model. Self-…
Koululaisten fyysisen aktiivisuuden ja liikuntatunneilla koetun autonomian muutokset 7. luokalta 9. luokalle
2010
Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli analysoida koululaisten fyysisen aktiivisuuden ja liikuntatunneilla koetun autonomian muutoksia 7. luokalta 9. luokalle. Lisäksi tutkittiin liikuntatunneilla koetun autonomian yhteyttä fyysiseen aktiivisuuteen. Tutkimuksen osanottajiksi valittiin 639 (tytöt = 296, pojat = 343) keskisuomalaista koululaista, jotka olivat tutkimuksen alkaessa seitsemäsluokkalaisia. Tutkimukseen osallistui 8 koulua ja 32 opetusryhmää. Pitkittäisaineisto kerättiin 2007–2009 viidellä mittauskerralla, jotta alakoulusta yläkouluun siirtymisen jälkeistä kehitystrendiä voitiin seurata. Mittaukset suoritettiin strukturoiduilla kyselyillä. Oppilaiden itseraportoitua fyysistä aktiivisuutta …
Students' Physical Activity, Physical Education Enjoyment, and Motivational Determinants through a Three-Year School-Initiated Program
2023
Patterns of physical activity in adulthood are often established during adolescence, making this an important period for promoting physical activity. To address this, the Sotkamo Physical Activity as Civil Skill Program 2010–2014 was implemented to increase Grade 5 to 9 students’ physical activity on a daily basis. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of program on students’ physical activity and enjoyment. Furthermore, the relationship between motivational climate and enjoyment, and the percentages of students who engaged in 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity on the daily basis were examined.
