Analisi dei ricorsi "avverso giudizio del Medico Competente (M.C.)" inoltrati all'U.O.S. " Prevenzione Sanitaria e Epidemiologia occupazionale" del S…

2012

The purpose of this study is to analyze the appeals against a "suitability judgment for work" lodged to the U.O.S. "Health Prevention and Occupational Epidemiology Operative Unit" of Department of Prevention and Safety in the Working Environment within the ASP Palermo (U.O.S.), from 2008 to 2010. Studying the appeals gives an indirect view on the occupational physician activity and allows to monitor their actions, analysis aims at highlighting those issues around which any planning and implementation of coordination activities should be focused. © PI-ME, Pavia 2012.

Immunoaffinity purification and characterization of mitochondrial membrane-bound D-3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase from Jaculus orientalis.

2008

Abstract Background The interconversion of two important energy metabolites, 3-hydroxybutyrate and acetoacetate (the major ketone bodies), is catalyzed by D-3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (BDH1: EC 1.1.1.30), a NAD+-dependent enzyme. The eukaryotic enzyme is bound to the mitochondrial inner membrane and harbors a unique lecithin-dependent activity. Here, we report an advanced purification method of the mammalian BDH applied to the liver enzyme from jerboa (Jaculus orientalis), a hibernating rodent adapted to extreme diet and environmental conditions. Results Purifying BDH from jerboa liver overcomes its low specific activity in mitochondria for further biochemical characterization of the e…

Catching allergy by a simple questionnaire

2014

Background Identifying allergic rhinitis requires allergy testing, but the first-line referral for rhinitis are usually primary care physicians (PCP), who are not familiar with such tests. The availability of easy and simple tests to be used by PCP to suggest allergy should be very useful. Methods The Respiratory Allergy Prediction (RAP) test, based on 9 questions and previously validated by a panel of experts, was evaluated in this study. Results An overall number of 401 patients (48.6% males, age range 14–62 years) with respiratory symptoms was included. Of them, 89 (22.2%) showed negative results to SPT, while 312 (77.8%) had at least one positive result to SPT. Cohen’s kappa coefficient…

What is the opinion of the family doctors on the optometry consultations of the Navarre Health Service?

2020

Identity and relationship frames in medical leadership communication

2021

PurposeA frame is an interpretive scheme of meanings that guide participants’ interpretations of social interaction and their actions in social situations (Goffman, 1974). By identifying early-career physicians’ identity and relationship frames, this study aims to produce information about socially constructed ways to interpret leadership communication in a medical context.Design/methodology/approachThe data consist of essays written by young physicians (n= 225) during their specialization training and workplace learning period. The analysis was conducted applying constructive grounded theory.FindingsThree identity and relationship frames were identified: the expertise frame, the collegial …

Huono johtaminen lääkärikontekstissa

2022

Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena on selvittää, millaisia ilmenemismuotoja huono johtaminen saa lääkärikontekstissa. Aineiston keruumenetelmänä käytettiin puolistrukturoitua haastattelua (n=50). Kaikki aineiston informantit ovat lääkäreitä. Tutkimusaineisto analysoitiin sisällönanalyysin avulla, jonka tuloksena syntyi huonon lääkärijohtamisen teemoittelu. Tätä teemajakoa täsmennettiin myös aiemman tutkimuskirjallisuuden avulla.Tutkimuksen tuloksilla toivotaan voitavan kehittää lääkäreiden työhyvinvointia ja lääkärijohtajan työtä terveydenhuollon muuttuvassa toimintaympäristössä siten, että lääkäreillä olisi tehtäväänsä motivoituneita ja tehtävässään viihtyviä lääkäreitä johtajinaan. Role of the gastroenterologist in the management of the obese patient.

2017

Obesity is a highly prevalent disease worldwide, and one in which gastroenterologists can play an important role. Some digestive diseases are more common in obese patients, and preoperative evaluation may be required in some cases. Additionally, bariatric surgery can lead to digestive complications in the short and long term that require intervention, and endoscopic treatment can be an important factor in weight loss. The aim of this review is to highlight the role of the gastroenterologist in the management of obese patients who are either scheduled for or have undergone surgical or endoscopic treatment for obesity.

The impact of psychopharmacology on contemporary clinical psychiatry.

2014

Clinical psychiatric evaluations of patients have changed dramatically in recent decades. Both initial assessments and follow-up visits have become brief and superficial, focused on searching for categorical diagnostic criteria from checklists, with limited inquiry into patient-reported symptomatic status and tolerability of treatments. The virtually exclusive therapeutic task has become selecting a plausible psychotropic, usually based on expert consensus guidelines. These guidelines and practice patterns rest mainly on published monotherapy trials that may or may not be applicable to particular patients but are having a profound impact, not only on modern psychiatric practice but also on…

Informing MS patients on treatment options: a consensus on the process of consent taking

2020

Abstract\ud In the last years, change in multiple sclerosis (MS) therapeutic scenario has highlighted the need for an improved doctor-patient communication in advance of treatment initiation in order to allow patient’s empowerment in the decision-making process.\ud Aims\ud The aims of our project were to review the strategies used by Italian MS specialists to inform patients about treatment options and to design a multicentre shared document that homogenizes the information about disease-modifying treatment (DMTs) and the procedure of taking informed consent in clinical practice.\ud Results\ud The new resource, obtained by consensus among 31 neurologists from 27 MS Centres in Italy with the…
