Determination of Drug Concentrations in Serum and Dopamine Receptor Occupancy in Brain for Optimal Antipsychotic Drug Therapy

Evidence has been given that antipsychotic effects of dopamine receptor antagonists are associated with 60 and 80% striatal dopamine D2 and D3 receptor occupancy. Receptor occupancy correlates well with concentrations of the antipsychotic drugs in serum or plasma, much better than the dose. The latter is consistent with weak correlations between antipsychotic dose and serum concentrations and explained by the high interindividual variabilities in drug metabolism. Description of an improved method for Blastocystis hominis culture and axenization

An improved method for Blastocystis hominis culture and axenization was developed in the present study. Stool samples were cultured in prereduced Boeck-Drbohlav NHI modified medium (with several modifications) supplemented with antibiotics (0.4% ampicillin, 0.1% streptomycin, 0.0006% amphotericin B). Axenization was performed by the combination of partial purification of B. hominis by Ficoll-metrizoic acid gradient and inoculation in fresh medium containing active antibiotics against remaining bacteria. Breast cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related death among women. The invasive triple-negative subtype is unresponsive to estrogen therapy, and few effective treatments are available. In search of new chemical scaffolds to target this disease, we conducted a phenotypic screen against the human breast carcinoma cell lines MDA-MB-231, MA11, and MCF-7 using terrestrial natural products. There are currently three anti-Xa factors (rivaroxaban, apixaban, edoxaban) and one anti-IIa factor (dabigatran) labeled by the FDA and the EMA. All these drugs are direct anticoagulant, orally effective, without the need for adaptation to hemostasis test. Stimuli-responsive bile acid-based metallogels forming in aqueous media

Abstract The synthesis and gelation properties of a picolinic acid conjugated bile acid derivative in the presence of metal salts along with the stimuli-responsiveness of the systems are reported. The gels are formed in the presence of Cu 2+ ions in the solvent systems composed of 30–50% of organic solvent (MeOH, acetonitrile, or acetone) in water. The gels respond to various stimuli: they can be formed upon sonication or shaking, and their gel–sol transformation can be triggered by a variety of chemical species. NMR, MS, and SEM techniques are exploited in order to gain a deeper insight on the self-assembled systems.

Providing pediatric well-care and sick visits in the COVID-19 pandemic era: the recommendations of the Italian pediatric society.

AbstractPediatricians have observed a significant decrease in in-person child health visits during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the post lockdown period, the coronavirus trend remains positive in Italy but fears of a second wave have recently grown in Italy due to active hotbeds of contagion. The pandemic may negatively affect the care of pediatric patients and overall children welfare as it may present with severe signs and symptoms or it may complicate. The Italian Pediatric Society recommend to separate well visits from sick ones, to educate families and to promote hygienic strategies to provide an adequate pediatric assistance in case of a second pandemic wave.
