Expression of Wild-Type and Variant Estrogen Receptor Alpha in Liver Carcinogenesis and Tumor Progression.
2011
Although estrogen receptors (ERs) are expressed in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), several clinical trials have failed to demonstrate the efficacy of antiestrogen treatment in HCC patients. Recently, the identification of several ER splicing variants has enlightened the complex nature of estrogen signaling in peripheral tissues; this may help understanding estrogen role in either nontumoral or malignant nonclassical target organs, including liver. In this work we have investigated mRNA expression of wild-type and splice variants of ERα in nontumoral, cirrhotic, and malignant human liver, as well as in HCC cell lines, using an exon-specific reverse transcription polymerase chain reacti…
An Uncommon Case of Adolescent Ovarian Teratoma Incarcerated in Inguinal Hernia
2016
Mature cystic teratoma is the most frequent benign ovarian neoplastic lesion in adolescents and is generally composed of fully differentiated tissue arising from multipotential three germinal layers. It accounts for approximately 50% of benign ovarian tumors in childhood. Rarely, a bilateral, synchronous, or metachronous presentation can be observed, supporting a conservative approach as the first surgical approach. We report a case of an ovarian mature cystic incarcerated in indirect inguinal hernia in a 15-year-old girl undergoing ovary-sparing surgery. To our knowledge this is the first case of such lesion incarcerated in an inguinal hernia reported in literature. Mature cystic teratoma …
Uniform response of c-raf expression to differentiation induction and inhibition of proliferation in a rat rhabdomyosarcoma cell line
1990
The clonal rat rhabdomyosarcoma cell line BA-HAN-1C is composed of proliferating mononuclear cells, some of which spontaneously fuse to terminally differentiated myotube-like giant cells. Both the induction of differentiation by retinoic acid (RA) and by sodium butyrate (NaBut), as well as the inhibition of proliferation by fetal calf serum (FCS)-depleted medium uniformly resulted in the same effects. There was a significant (p less than 0.001) inhibition of proliferation and induction of cellular differentiation, as evidenced by a significant (p less than 0.05) increase in creatine kinase activity. Furthermore, after exposure to RA-supplemented or FCS-depleted medium, a significant (p less…

Case report: absence of the right piriformis muscle in a woman
2018
We report a very rare case of a unilaterally absent piriformis muscle in a 60 year old woman. Accompanying variations comprised a common gluteal artery (instead of two distinct superior and inferior gluteal arteries), and an absent gemellus inferior muscle. The contralateral left side showed a normally developed piriformis muscle. In hominoids, the piriformis is constant, but is regularly missing in several other vertebrates. The piriformis muscle is an anatomical landmark for ultrasound investigations and ultrasound-guided interventions in the deep gluteal region such as a superior gluteal nerve block or even a sacral plexus block, also for any surgical approach such as total hip arthropla…

Acquired haemophilia in cancer: A systematic and critical literature review
2017
Aim There is a paucity of data on the clinical presentation and management of cancer patients with acquired haemophilia (AH), we here report a systematic literature review on acquired haemophilia in the context of cancer. Methods Treatment outcomes of AH were defined as complete response (CR), partial response (PR) or no response (NR), based on inhibitor eradication, coagulation factor VIII levels and bleeding control. Reported deaths were either related to cancer or bleeding. Results Overall, 105 cases were collected and analyzed according to classification of cancer and efficacy of treatments for inhibitor and malignancy. The mean age was 68 years for both males (range 37-86 years) and fe…
COVID-19 epidemic: Proposed alternatives in the management of digestive cancers: A French intergroup clinical point of view (SNFGE, FFCD, GERCOR, UNI…
2020
International audience; Introduction - Patients treated for malignancy are considered at risk of severe COVID-19. This exceptional pandemic has affected countries on every level, particularly health systems which are experiencing saturation. Like many countries, France is currently greatly exposed, and a complete reorganization of hospitals is ongoing. We propose here adaptations of diagnostic procedures, therapies and care strategies for patients treated for digestive cancer during the COVID-19 epidemic. Methods - French societies of gastroenterology and gastrointestinal (GI) oncology carried out this study to answer two main questions that have arisen (i) how can we limit high-risk situat…
A phase I-II study of cyclophosphamide, epidoxorubicin, levofolinic acid/5-fluorouracil and recombinant human granulocyte colony stimulating factor i…
1994
Thirty patients with measurable metastatic breast carcinoma were treated with a combination of cyclophosphamide 600 mg/m2 on day 1, levofolinic acid 100 mg/m2 plus 5-fluorouracil 375 mg/m2 on days 1-3, and epidoxorubicin (EDXR) in three refracted doses on days 1-3 with G-CSF rescue for 10 days. In the phase I part of the study, groups of 3 patients received EDXR 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 mg/m2/day until the dose limiting toxicity (DLT) was reached. At the dose of 40mg/m2/day prolonged grade 4 leukopenia, severe proctitis, and grade 3 diarrhea represented the DLT. All subsequent partients were treated at the maximal tolerated dose of EDXR (35 mg/m2/day). In the group of 18 patients treated at 3…
