ShRNA-mediated knock-down of CXCL8 inhibits tumor growth in colorectal liver metastasis.

CXCL8 belongs to proinflammatory chemokines that are predominantly involved in neutrophil chemotaxis and degranulation. Several studies have suggested that secretion of CXCL8 from cancer cells have a profound effect on tumor microenvironment. In this study, in continuation to our previous work of understanding the global picture of invasion related genes in colorectal liver metastases, we clearly show an up-regulation of CXCL8 expression in the tumor cells at the invasion front as compared to the tumor cells in the inner parts of the tumor. Surgical repair of acute Achilles tendon rupture with an end-to-end tendon suture and tendon flap.

Abstract Background Achilles tendon ruptures are becoming more common. Complications after open or minimally invasive surgery are: recurrent rupture (2–8%), wound breakdown, deep infections, granuloma, and fistulas. The authors expose their experience with a personal technique. Materials In 8 patients with acute rupture of Achilles tendon the surgery was performed at least 25 days after trauma. Clinical exam and MR demonstrated in all case a total lesion of tendon. After a posterolateral skin incision the tendon stumps were debrided and suture in end-to-end fashion. Hyperplastic callus formation in osteogenesis imperfecta: CT and MRI findings.

Hyperplastic callus formation is a noteworthy condition in patients with osteogenesis imperfecta because it often mimicks osteosarcoma on radiography. The findings of CT and MRI in hyperplastic callus formation have not been reported. In the presented case, MRI demonstrated contrast enhancement and edema of the surrounding soft tisssue, consistent with benign as well as malignant disease. Computed tomography showed a calcified rim of the lesion which may be a useful feature to rule out osteosarcoma in this condition.

Abstract In the present study rheological, static and impact tests are carried out on two adhesive resins usually employed in marine applications; then single lap joint tests are conducted on composites joints evidencing the effect of the curing time of both resins on the mechanical properties of the joint. Abstract Methotrexate (MTX), an antimetabolite of folic acid, is a drug widely used in the treatment of different types of cancer. When high doses are administered, it is necessary to interrupt its action by administering calcium leucovorin (CaL). The main pathway of MTX and CaL elimination in humans occurs through the kidney, but about 10% is excreted in the faeces via the bile. Analysis and optimization of hybrid double lap aluminum-GFRP joints

In this paper a systematic investigation of the mechanical performance of hybrid double-lap Al-GFRP bonded-bolted joints, has been carried out by using experimental analyses and numerical simulations. In order to detect the optimal geometric configuration, as well as to highlight the contribution of adhesive and bolts, the results relative to hybrid joints have been compared with those of simply adhesively bonded and simply bolted joints. Introduction Pharmacokinetic interaction of high-dose methotrexate (MTX) and other concomitantly administered renally secreted medicinal products may lead to insufficient methotrexate serum level decrease and significant MTX toxicity. Case report We report the case of an 18-year-old male patient treated with high-dose MTX for an osteosarcoma and with high-dose piperacillin-tazobactam at the same time. MTX serum levels were severely elevated 24 hours after the MTX infusion and did not decrease in accordance with the specific calcium folinate rescue protocol. Chondrosarcomas are resistant to conventional chemo- and radiotherapy. A subset of chondrosarcomas arises secondarily in the benign tumour syndromes enchondromatosis (EC) and multiple osteochondromas (MO), and prevention of tumour development would greatly improve prognosis.
