The efficacy of intra-articular PRP, ozone and ozone+PRP injections in patients with osteoarthritis

2018

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis and some joints are effected more than others. The prevalence of OA increases with age and it represents the major problem for functional impairment in older patients. Non-surgical treatment with oral drugs is not suitable for many patients suffering from gastric disorders, high blood pressure or different heart diseases. Intra-articular injections are a promising solution in these cases.
This study was performed to compare the efficacy and safety of ozone injections, PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections and combined ozone plus PRP injections in patients with symptomatic knee OA.
120 patients were diagnosed of OA accordi…

Platelet Activity and Blood Lipid Changes in Diabetes Mellitus

1984

An altered platelet function can often be found in diabetes mellitus (2, 3, 4, 10, 13, 16, 17, 23, 24). Several studies have pointed towards an increased sensitivity of platelets to ADP induced aggregation (3, 6, 23) in diabetic patients; this phenomenon can also be found in diabetics without apparent vasculopathy and in subjects with altered glucose tolerance (3, 23).

Dental management in patients with hemostasis alteration

2011

Haemostasis is a mechanism that, through different interdependent biologic processes, has the purpose of ensuring the integrity and permeability of the circulatory system. Hemostasis term means prevention the loss of blood. Interventions or treatments in the oral cavity, in particular those with a possibility of bleeding, represent a risk for patients with disorders of hemostasis. Prevention is the key to avoid bleeding complications after oral surgical procedures and therefore it is essential a detailed medical history of the patient. The appropriate diagnosis and treatment in patients with disorders of hemostasis, depends directly in the understanding of hemostasis standard mechanisms. Em…

Increase in Endogenous Fibrinolysis and Platelet Activity during Exercise in Young Volunteers

1992

Physicians at the Medical Clinic at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz Germany compared data on 6 18-35 year old healthy women who took low-dose estrogen oral contraceptives (OCs) with data on 10 healthy women of same age who did not take OCs and with data on 12 18-35 year old males to examine gender differences of the coagulation system endogenous fibrinolytic activity and platelet aggregation under normal conditions and immediately after spiroergometric exercise beyond the anaerobic threshold. This type of exercise considerably boosted tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) in both men and women (1.6-5.5 IU/ml and 1.8-5.3 IU/ml respectively; p < .005). The increase was not as high in…

Prognostisch relevante Faktoren bei der intraabdominalen infektion

1992

From 1.1.1982-30.9.1989 280 patients were treated for intraabdominal infection at the clinic for general and abdominal surgery. With regard to their prognostic significance, the extent and localization of the peritonitis, abscess formation, the number of failed organ system, patients' age, total protein, thrombocytes and leucocytes were examined in these patients. The most unfavorable prognosis showed diffuse peritonitis with a mortality rate of 47.2%. Subsequent abscessing worsened the prognosis of the illness. There was a close correlation between the number of failed organ systems at the time of hospitalization and mortality. Low total protein content or more so a necessary substitution …

Significance of Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) and Platelet Lymphocyte Ratio (PLR) in Diabetic Foot Ulcer and Potential New Therapeutic Targets

2021

Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a well-known complication of diabetes and a significant burden on the national health systems. The neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet/lymphocyte ratio are inexpensive and easily accessible biomarkers that have proved to be useful in several inflammatory, infectious and cardiovascular diseases. We carried out a comprehensive review examining the association of NLR and PLR with the onset and progression of DFU. PLR and NLR were significantly increased in patients with DFU, compared with a control group of T2DM patients without DFU, and correlate well with DFU severity, evaluated by Wagner and IWGDF grading scales. In patients with diabetic foot infect…

Mesh Plates for Scapula Fixation

2015

While scapula fractures are often treated nonoperatively, there are a number of displaced fractures in which surgical treatment can be considered. When necessary, open reduction and internal fixation with plates is the accepted method for stabilization. However, there are limited options of commercially available plates for fixation of the scapula. The authors describe 2 cases of scapula fracture and 1 scapula osteotomy that were managed with internal fixation using low-profile mesh plates. The mesh plate is a stainless steel lattice that can be molded and trimmed to create a plate that matches the unusual 3-dimensional anatomy of the scapula. It accepts 2.4/2.7 mm cortical and variable ang…

Platelet membrane fluidity and platelet membrane lipid pattern in essential hypertension

1995

In a group of subjects with essential hypertension platelets were studied in resting conditions: platelet membrane fluidity was measured with the fluorescent probe 1.4-(trimethylamino)-phenyl-4-phenylhexatriene (TMA-DPH), platelet membrane cholesterol/phospholipid ratio was evaluated separating the membrane lipids with column chromatography, and platelet membrane individual phospholipids were determined using two-dimensional thin-layer chromatography. From the obtained results, it is evident that platelet membrane fluidity does not differentiate normals from hypertensives; platelet membrane cholesterol/phospholipid ratio is increased in hypertensives, while of the platelet membrane individu…

Clinical management of alveolar osteitis. A systematic review

2021

Background Alveolar Osteitis (AO) is one of the most common complications of tooth extraction. Several therapeutic interventions have been described for the treatment of AO, however, there are no treatment standardized protocols. The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review on the efficacy in pain control of the different treatments for AO. The feasibility of the application of these interventions is also discussed. Material and Methods A structured electronic and hand search strategy was applied to PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library, OpenGrey, and Google Scholar between January 2010 and July 2020 to identify studies according to PRISMA guidelines. The inclusion criteria were orig…
