PACo: a novel procrustes application to cophylogenetic analysis.

We present Procrustean Approach to Cophylogeny (PACo), a novel statistical tool to test for congruence between phylogenetic trees, or between phylogenetic distance matrices of associated taxa. Unlike previous tests, PACo evaluates the dependence of one phylogeny upon the other. This makes it especially appropriate to test the classical coevolutionary model that assumes that parasites that spend part of their life in or on their hosts track the phylogeny of their hosts. The new method does not require fully resolved phylogenies and allows for multiple host-parasite associations. Para ello se comparan cuatro sistemas de protección integrada que reducen o suprimen el aporte de herbicidas, con un sistema convencional. We report on the construction and operation of a low-cost plotter for fabrication of microarrays for multiplexed single-cell analyses. The printing head consists of polymeric pyramidal pens mounted on a rotation stage installed on an aluminium frame. This construction enables printing of microarrays onto glass substrates mounted on a tilt stage, controlled by a Lab-View operated user interface. The plotter can be assembled by typical academic workshops from components of less than 15 000 Euro. The functionality of the instrument is demonstrated by printing DNA microarrays on the area of 0.5 squared centimeters using up to three different oligonucleotides. Localization of non-specific X-linked mental retardation gene (MRX73) to Xp22.2.

Clinical and molecular studies are reported on a family (MRX73) of five males with non-specific X-linked mental retardation (XLMR). A total of 33 microsatellite and RFLP markers was typed. The gene for this XLMR condition was been linked to DXS1195, with a lod score of 2.36 at theta = 0. The haplotype and multipoint linkage analyses suggest localization of the MRX73 locus to an interval of 2 cM defined by markers DXS8019 and DXS365, in Xp22.2. This interval contains the gene of Coffin-Lowry syndrome (RSK2), where a missense mutation has been associated with a form of non-specific mental retardation.
