Weakly \varphi-pairs and common fixed points in cone metric spaces

2009

In this paper we introduce a weak contractive condition, called weakly \varphi-pair, for two mappings in the framework of cone metric spaces and we prove a theorem which ensures existence and uniqueness of common fixed points for such mappings. Also we obtain a result on points of coincidence. These results extend and generalize well-known comparable results in the literature.

Sharp estimate on the inner distance in planar domains

2020

We show that the inner distance inside a bounded planar domain is at most the one-dimensional Hausdorff measure of the boundary of the domain. We prove this sharp result by establishing an improved Painlev\'e length estimate for connected sets and by using the metric removability of totally disconnected sets, proven by Kalmykov, Kovalev, and Rajala. We also give a totally disconnected example showing that for general sets the Painlev\'e length bound $\kappa(E) \le\pi \mathcal{H}^1(E)$ is sharp.

Fixed Points for Multivalued Weighted Mean Contractions in a Symmetric Generalized Metric Space

2020

This paper defines two new concepts: the concept of multivalued left-weighted mean contractions in the generalized sense of Nadler in a symmetric generalized metric space and the concept of multivalued right-weighted mean contractions in the generalized sense of Nadler in a symmetric generalized metric space, and demonstrates fixed-point theorems for them. For these, we demonstrated two fixed-point existence theorems and their corollaries, by using the properties of the regular-global-inf function and the properties of symmetric generalized metric spaces, respectively. Moreover, we demonstrated that the theorems can be applied in particular cases of inclusion systems. This article contains …

Some remarks on nonsmooth critical point theory

2006

A general min-max principle established by Ghoussoub is extended to the case of functionals f which are the sum of a locally Lipschitz continuous term and of a convex, proper, lower semicontinuous function, when f satisfies a compactness condition weaker than the Palais-Smale one, i.e., the so-called Cerami condition. Moreover, an application to a class of elliptic variational-hemivariational inequalities in the resonant case is presented. © Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2007.

Bifurcation and multiplicity results for nonlinear elliptic problems involving critical Sobolev exponents

1984

Abstract In this paper we study the existence of nontrivial solutions for the boundary value problem { − Δ u − λ u − u | u | 2 ⁎ − 2 = 0 in Ω u = 0 on ∂ Ω when Ω⊂Rn is a bounded domain, n ⩾ 3, 2 ⁎ = 2 n ( n − 2 ) is the critical exponent for the Sobolev embedding H 0 1 ( Ω ) ⊂ L p ( Ω ) , λ is a real parameter. We prove that there is bifurcation from any eigenvalue λj of − Δ and we give an estimate of the left neighbourhoods ] λ j ⁎ , λj] of λj, j∈N, in which the bifurcation branch can be extended. Moreover we prove that, if λ ∈ ] λ j ⁎ , λj[, the number of nontrivial solutions is at least twice the multiplicity of λj. The same kind of results holds also when Ω is a compact Riemannian manif…

Some Common Fixed Point Results in Cone Metric Spaces

2009

We prove a result on points of coincidence and common fixed points for three self-mappings satisfying generalized contractive type conditions in cone metric spaces. We deduce some results on common fixed points for two self-mappings satisfying contractive type conditions in cone metric spaces. These results generalize some well-known recent results.

Multiple solutions of second order Hamiltonian systems

2017

Author(s): Bonanno, G; Livrea, R; Schechter, M | Abstract: The existence and the multiplicity of periodic solutions for a parameter dependent second order Hamiltonian system are established via linking theorems. A monotonicity trick is adopted in order to prove the existence of an open interval of parameters for which the problem under consideration admits at least two non trivial qualified solutions.

Infinitely many weak solutions for a mixed boundary value system with (p_1,…,p_m)-Laplacian

2014

The aim of this paper is to prove the existence of infinitely many weak solu- tions for a mixed boundary value system with (p1, . . . , pm)-Laplacian. The approach is based on variational methods.

Quantum correlations in dissipative gain–loss systems across exceptional points

2023

We investigate the behavior of correlations dynamics in a dissipative gain-loss system. First, we consider a setup made of two coupled lossy oscillators, with one of them subject to a local gain. This provides a more realistic platform to implement parity-time (PT) symmetry circumventing the implementation of a pure gain. We show how the qualitative dynamics of correlations resembles that for a pure-gain-loss setup. The major quantitative effect is that quantum correlations are reduced, while total ones are enhanced. Second, we study the behavior of these correlations across an exceptional point (EP) outside of the PT-symmetric regime of parameters, observing how different behaviors across …

The endoperoxide ascaridol shows strong differential cytotoxicity in nucleotide excision repair-deficient cells

2011

Targeting synthetic lethality in DNA repair pathways has become a promising anti-cancer strategy. However little is known about such interactions with regard to the nucleotide excision repair (NER) pathway. Therefore, cell lines with a defect in the NER genes ERCC6 or XPC and their normal counterparts were screened with 53 chemically defined phytochemicals isolated from plants used in traditional Chinese medicine for differential cytotoxic effects. The screening revealed 12 drugs that killed NER-deficient cells more efficiently than proficient cells. Five drugs were further analyzed for IC50 values, effects on cell cycle distribution, and induction of DNA damage. Ascaridol was the most effe…
