A sequence of positive solutions for sixth-order ordinary nonlinear differential problems
2021
Infinitely many solutions for a nonlinear sixth-order differential equation are obtained. The variational methods are adopted and an oscillating behaviour on the nonlinear term is required, avoiding any symmetry assumption.
Action-oriented classification of families' information and communication actions: exploring mothers' viewpoints
2009
Action-oriented service and technology development begins with the idea that people use technologies to reach their action goals. Consequently, we should investigate user needs and how they can be satisfied, and adapt services and technologies to the natural course of actions. Here, we focus on family communication and investigate mobile communication service types for families. For this study 10 mothers were interviewed; we investigated the nature of their everyday information and communication needs and the different knowledge and information transfer actions that were discovered in their families. Qualitative analysis of these interviews was used to generate a taxonomy, which, in turn, c…
Hospital performance: Efficiency or quality? Can we have both with IT?
2015
This paper explores influence of IT investment on hospital efficiency and quality. There is a direct effect of IT investment on service quality in hospitals. There is a moderating effect of quality on operational efficiency in hospitals. There is a U-shaped relationship between IT investments and operational efficiency.IT investments have diminishing returns beyond a certain point. The influence of IT investment on hospital efficiency and quality are of great interest to healthcare executives as well as insurers. Few studies have examined how IT investments influence both efficiency and quality or whether there is an optimal IT investment level that influences both in the desired direction. De…
Introducing Pseudo-Singularity Points for Efficient Fingerprints Classification and Recognition
2010
Fingerprint classification and matching are two key issues in automatic fingerprint recognition. Generally, fingerprint recognition is based on a set of relevant local characteristics, such as ridge ending and bifurcation (minutiae). Fingerprint classification is based on fingerprint global features, such as core and delta singularity points. Unfortunately, singularity points are not always present in a fingerprint image: the acquisition process is not ideal, so that the fingerprint is broken, or the fingerprint belongs to the arch class. In the above cases, pseudo-singularity-points will be detected and extracted to make possible fingerprint classification and matching. As result, fingerpr…
PHOTOGRAMMETRY NOW AND THEN - FROM HAND-CRAFTED TO DEEP-LEARNING TIE POINTS
2022
Abstract. Historical images provide a valuable source of information exploited by several kinds of applications, such as the monitoring of cities and territories, the reconstruction of destroyed buildings, and are increasingly being shared for cultural promotion projects through virtual reality or augmented reality applications. Finding reliable and accurate matches between historical and present images is a fundamental step for such tasks since they require to co-register the present 3D scene with the past one. Classical image matching solutions are sensitive to strong radiometric variations within the images, which are particularly relevant in these multi-temporal contexts due to differen…
Ancora sulle "esplosive palatali" nelle inchieste dell'Atlante Linguistico del Mediterraneo (ALM): i punti albanesi
2021
On Geometric Simple Connectivity

Recently, Huang and Zhang defined cone metric spaces by substituting an order normed space for the real numbers and proved some fixed point theorems. For fixed point results in the framework of cone metric space see, also, Di Bari and Vetro [\textit{$\varphi$-pairs and common fixed points in cone metric spaces}, Rend. Circ. Mat. Palermo \textbf{57} (2008), 279--285 and \textit{Weakly $\varphi$-pairs and common fixed points in cone metric spaces}, Rend. Circ. Mat. Palermo \textbf{58} (2009), 125--132]. Let $(E,\tau)$ be a topological vector space and $P$ a cone in $E$ with int\,$P\neq \emptyset$, where int\,$P$ denotes the interior of $P$. The authors define a topology $\tau_p$ on $E$ so tha…

Recently, Huang and Zhang [\emph{Cone metric spaces and fixed point theorems of contractive mappings}, J. Math. Anal. Appl., \textbf{332} (2007), 1468 -1476] defined cone metric spaces by substituing an order normed space for the real numbers and proved some fixed point theorems. Let $E$ be a real Hausdorff topological vector space and $P$ a cone in $E$ with int\,$P\neq \emptyset$, where int\,$P$ denotes the interior of $P$. Let $X$ be a nonempty set. A function $d : X \times X\to E$ is called a \emph{tvs}-cone metric and $(X, d)$ is called a \emph{tvs}-cone metric space, if the following conditions hold: (1) $\theta \leq d(x, y)$ for all $x, y \in X$ and $d(x, y)= \theta$ if and only if $x…
PPF dependent fixed point results for triangular $alpha_c$-admissible mappings
2014
We introduce the concept of triangular $alpha_c$-admissible mappings (pair of mappings) with respect to $η_c$ nonself-mappings and establish the existence of PPF dependent fixed (coincidence) point theorems for contraction mappings involving triangular $alpha_c$-admissible mappings (pair of mappings) with respect to $η_c$ nonself-mappings in Razumikhin class. Several interesting consequences of our theorems are also given.
