Are climate change policies politically costly?

Are policies designed to avert climate change (Climate Change Policies, or CCPs) politically costly? Using data on governmental popular support and the OECD's Environmental Stringency Index covering 30 countries between 2001 and 2015, our results show that CCPs are not necessarily politically costly: policy design matters. First, in contrast to non-market-based CCPs (such as emission limits), only market-based CCPs (such as emission taxes) entail political costs for the government. AbstractThe collective management of irrigation is an essential factor in agrarian development, both present and past. However, the relationship of irrigation associations with the state remains underexplored, despite the increasingly important role played by water policies in the modern world. The present article examines this relationship in Spain over the last two centuries. “I feel, I know, I am immortal”: literary works in the newspapers of Soviet prisons and camps in the 1920s

Abstract The present article sheds new light on the newspapers and other publications of the Soviet prison camps in the 1920s and early 1930s. The first part reconstructs the institutional dynamics that brought about the publication of newspapers, wall newspapers and other periodicals produced inside the camps. The article then focuses on a selection of literary works published by inmates and on the importance of Soviet newspapers published in places of detention as a source for the study not only of the history of the Gulag, but also of its culture and literature.

Faculty Perception of Inclusion in the University: Concept, Policies and Educational Practices

European universities must face the challenge of diversity and design inclusive practices to address it as part of their social responsibility. However, not all universities are doing the same in terms of diversity practices, so it is important to gather the perceptions of the protagonists. Employee violations of IS security policies are reported as a key concern for organizations. Although behavioral research on IS security has received increasing attention from IS scholars, little empirical research has examined this problem. To address this research gap, the authors test a model based on Rational Choice Theory RCT-a prominent criminological theory not yet applied in IS-which explains, in terms of a utilitarian calculation, an individual's decision to commit a violation. Circumventing deadlock through venue-shopping: Why there is more than just talk in US immigration politics in times of economic crisis

This article addresses the question of how the financial and economic crisis that hit the US in the late 2000s impacted immigration policies. We find that the crisis has not significantly changed dynamics. Instead, it has highlighted and aggravated persisting trends.
