Reviewing research priorities in weed ecology, evolution and management: a horizon scan.

Weedy plants pose a major threat to food security, biodiversity, ecosystem services and consequently to human health and wellbeing. However, many currently used weed management approaches are increasingly unsustainable. To address this knowledge and practice gap, in June 2014, 35 weed and invasion ecologists, weed scientists, evolutionary biologists and social scientists convened a workshop to explore current and future perspectives and approaches in weed ecology and management. In most fisheries, larger fish experience substantially higher mortality than smaller fish. Body length, life history, and behavioral traits are often correlated, such that fisheries-induced changes in size or life history can also alter behavioral traits. However, empirical evidence regarding how size-selective harvesting alters the evolution of behavioral traits in exploited stocks is scarce. A Fractional-Order Control Approach to Ramp Tracking with Memory-Efficient Implementation

We investigate the fractional-order (FO) control of arbitrary order LTI systems. We show that, for ramp tracking or input disturbance rejection, it is advantageous to include an FO integrator to the open-loop if we have to increase the order of integration further than one. With the lower phase-loss of the FO integrator it is easier to guarantee a desired phase margin. Furthermore the flat phase response around the crossover-frequency (iso-damping property) can be achieved for a wider frequency range such that the closed-loop is more robust wrt. amplitude and phase margins. This chapter proposes dynamic performance management (DPM) as a suitable method to identify policies in the context of climate change adaptation. Namely, it focuses on the role it can play to support the analysis of how to enhance resilience of social and economic systems to climate change.
