Morphology and thermal behavior of dicyanate ester-polyetherimide semi-IPNS cured at different conditions

2000

A high-temperature thermosetting bisphenol-A dicyanate, BADCy was modified with polyetherimide, PEI, at various compositions. Phase separation and rheokinetics through curing were studied by optical microscopy, dynamic and isothermal differential scanning calorimetry, and rheological measurements. The PEI phase separated at the early stages of curing, well before gelation, and did not affect the polycyclotrimerization kinetics. The phase structure and thermal properties of the final network were investigated as a function of the PEI content and cure temperature. For this purpose, dynamic mechanical analysis, scanning electron microscopy studies, and thermogravimetrical analysis were carried…

Resistance to disinfection of a polymicrobial association contaminating the surface of elastomeric dental impressions.

2009

The aim of this study was to evaluate the ability to resist disinfection of a polymicrobial association contaminating the surface of dental impressions obtained with two different elastomers: a polyether (Impregum) and an addition-polymerized silicone (Elite). Impressions were contaminated with a mixture of three biofilm-forming microorganisms (Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans) and disinfected immediately after contamination, or after microbial layers were allowed to develop during a six-hour storage. Two commercial disinfectants were tested: MD 520 containing 0.5% glutaraldehyde and Sterigum Powder without glutaraldehyde. Residual contamination was recover…

Proton Conducting Electrospun Sulfonated Polyether Ether Ketone-Graphene Oxide Composite Membranes

2017

[EN] A series of novel composite membranes, based on sulfonated poly(ether ketone) (SPEEK) with a graphene oxide (GO) layer, were prepared. One contained a GO layer sandwiched between the SPEEK-polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) matrix (SPEEK/PVA@GO), and another deposited thin layers of GO on the nanofibers of SPEEK-polyvinyl butyral (PVB), with both sandwiched in the phase matrix of SPEEK-PVA (SPEEK/PVA@GO-NF). Various nanofiber thicknesses were studied by varying the electrospinning time. The prepared composite membranes with different nanofiber thicknesses were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, water uptake, ionic exchange capacity, thermogravimetric analysis, mechanical properties an…

Preparation and determination of the structure of high-performance polymer blends by small-angle neutron scattering

1995

Amorphous blends from a deuterated polyaryletherketone and a polyetherimide have been prepared and investigated by neutron scattering. The used components differ remarkably in their structure antheir solution properties. The blends on the other hand are combinatorial mixtures : the scattering quantity Φ 1 Φ 2 /S(q) is independent of the composition of the blends if the polymer chains have the same length

The structure of high-performance polymer blends by small-angle neutron scattering

1997

Abstract Amorphous blends from a deuterated polyaryletherketone and a polyetherimide have been prepared and investigated by small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). The blends are combinatorial mixtures: the scattering quantity Φ1Φ2/S(q) is independant of the composition of the blends.

Solid State Analysis of Metal-Containing Polymers Employing Mossbauer Spectroscopy, Solid State NMR and F EI TOF MALDI MS

2010

Polymers in general and metal-containing polymers in particular are often sparingly soluble or insoluble, in contrast to small molecules. Thus, special significance is attached to characterization techniques that can be applied to the materials as solids. Here, three techniques are discussed that give structural information gained from the solid material. Mossbauer spectroscopy is a powerful technique that may give information on the structure about the metal-containing moiety for about 44 different nuclei. Its use in describing the structure of the product obtained from organotin dichlorides and the unsymmetrical ciprofloxacin is presented along with the reaction implications of the result…

Surfactant Assisted Polymerization of Tetrafluoroethylene in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide with a Pilot Scale Batch Reactor.

2008

Chain-free radical polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) was carried out in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2), at 50 °C and 121–133 bar, with tertiary-amyl-per-pivalate as a free radical initiator, using a 5-L pilot scale batch reactor. Experiments were carried out both in the absence and in the presence of perfluoropolyether (PFPE) carboxylate surfactants. Stabilizers were employed under the free acid form and as sodium and calcium salts. An expanded fibrillated poly(TFE) was obtained in all experiments. In the case of surfactant-free polymerizations, the product was mainly constituted by irregular shape macroparticles having size in the range 200–500 μm. Quite interestingly, when…

Flexible Perfluoropolyethers-Functionalized CNTs-Based UHMWPE Composites: A Study on Hydrogen Evolution, Conductivity and Thermal Stability

2022

Flexible conductive composites based on ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) filled with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) modified by perfluoropolyethers (PFPEs) were produced. The bonding of PFPE chains, added in 1:1 and 2:1 weight ratios, on CNTs influences the dispersion of nanotubes in the UHMWPE matrix due to the non-polar nature of the polymer, facilitating the formation of nanofillers-rich conductive pathways and improving composites’ electrical conductivity (two to five orders of magnitude more) in comparison to UHMWPE-based nanocomposites obtained with pristine CNTs. Electrochemical atomic force microscopy (EC-AFM) was used to evaluate the morphological changes dur…

A Study of Osmosis Rate Through Several Proton Conducting Polymer Composite Membranes

2021

Carbon dioxide is typically considered to be a byproduct of various industrial processes that should not be released into the environment due to its nature as a harmful greenhouse gas. One of the more promising ways to dispose of it in an economical and environmentally friendly way is by using it as a raw material in electrochemical synthesis reactors. An important part of such reactors is an ion exchange membrane. In this study the influence of ZrO2 content in SPEEK – ZrO2 composite membranes on rate of osmosis trough them was investigated, with the goal of evaluating ZrO2 as an additive for making ion exchange membranes with fine-tuned osmotic permeability.

Study of the interocclusal distortion in impressions taken with different types of closed-mouth trays and two types of impression materials

2010

The aim of this study was to compare different types of impression trays for the closed-mouth impression technique, using two different types of impression material. For this study, five different types of impression trays were used with two different types of impression materials, one of addition silicone and the other of polyether. We designed a model used for taking the impressions and for measuring interocclusal distortion. The results obtained show that the impression trays COE (GC (R) GC America INC. Alsip) and Premier (Premier (R), Premier Dental Products Co. Canada) show a lesser degree of interocclusal distortion when taking closed-mouth impressions. In terms of impression material…
