Off-Resonant Optical Excitation of Gold Nanorods: Nanoscale Imprint of Polarization Surface Charge Distribution

International audience; We report on the nanoscale optical characterization of gold nanorods irradiated out of their plasmonic resonance. Our approach is based on the reticulation of a photopolymerizable formulation locally triggered by enhanced electromagnetic fields. The tiny local field enhancement stems from the surface polarization charges associated with the electric field discontinuity at the metal/dielectric interface. This allows us to get a nanoscale signature of the spatial distribution of the surface charge density in metallic nanoparticles irradiated off-resonance.

Molecularly homogeneous, polynuclear phenolic compounds were esterified with acrylic acid and methacrylic acid chlorides. The pcresyl esters of acrylic and methacrylic acid react in high dilution in boiling benzene with a large excess of radicals derived from AIBN in such manner that the growth step of the free-radical polymerization is prevented; this may be denoted a “suppressed” polymerization. The application of these conditions to the previously mentioned poly-nuclear esters results in the formation of molecularly homogeneous cyclooligomers (ladder oligomers). Controlling the number of monomers in a supramolecular polymer has been a great challenge in programmable self-assembly of organic molecules. One approach has been to make use of frustrated growth of the supramolecular assembly by tuning the balance of attractive and repulsive intermolecular forces. This work deals with the redox reactivity of magnesium porphine, the study of its electropolymerization and resulting materials, of its functionalization by nucleophiles as well as the mechanistic investigation of the C-C oxidative coupling on a tris-meso-substituted porphyrin model.The electrochemical oxidation of magnesium porphine to its cation radical leads to oligomers in solution and polymers on the electrode, which molecular structure depends on the imposed potential. Germplasm evaluation to obtain inulin with high degree of polymerization in Mediterranean environment

Long-chain length (DP) inulin-type fructans show pronounced beneficial effects to colon microbiota. In the past, cardoon roots for inulin production to fortify spaghetti gave very good results, but their harvest requires high costs. The aim of the work was to evaluate different types of inulin, extracted from cardoon roots and buds, topinambur tubers and chicory roots local populations in order to identify crops more suitable for high DP inulin production in Mediterranean environment. Blue-emitting pyrene-based aggregates.

The self-assembling features and gel formation of two pyrene imidazoles are presented. The supramolecular aggregation of these synthesised molecules results in an unusual blue-monomeric emission, which is rationalized by a combined experimental and theoretical investigation.

Preparation of Polymer-Supported Polyazamacrocycles. The Role of the Polymeric Matrix in the Preparation of Polymer-Supported Polyazamacrocycles

Different approaches have been studied for the preparation of resins containing different polyazamacrocycles. Preparation of monolithic resins by polymerization of vinylic derivatives of the corresponding macrocycles is shown to be a more versatile strategy for this purpose. The use of energy-dispersive analysis by X-ray has revealed to be a very useful tool for the rapid evaluation of the interaction of those materials with both anions and cations and has allowed the corresponding selectivity trends to be obtained in a fast and simple way. Important effects of the polymeric matrix are observed in some cases.

Gene transfer represents an important advance in the treatment of both genetic and acquired diseases. In this article, the suitability of cationically modified solid-lipid nanoparticles (SLN) as a nonviral vector for gene delivery was investigated, in order to obtain stable materials able to condense RNA. Cationic SLN were produced by microemulsion using Compritol ATO 888 as matrix lipid, Pluronic F68 as tenside, and dimethyldioctadecylammonium bromide (DDAB) as cationic lipid.
