Blocking TNF in vitro with infliximab determines the inhibition of expansion and interferon gamma production of Vγ9/Vδ2 T lymphocytes from patients w…

2011

Side effects of TNF neutralisation - mostly infectious complications - were recognized, the most important being pulmonary tuberculosis infections. gamma/ d T cells contribute to protective immune response against mycobacterium tuberculosis. The aim of the present study was to assess the expansion capacity of Vgamma9/Vdelta2 T cells from (tuberculin purified protein derivative (PPD) positive and PPD negative) patients with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and to examine the in vitro effect of infliximab on this lymphocyte subset.28 PPD negative RA patients were studied and compared with 14 PPD positive RA patients, 45 PPD-negative and 110 PPD-positive healthy volunteers. Cell separation, ex…

No deterioration in health-related quality of life in patients with axial spondyloarthritis followed for 5 years in ordinary outpatient clinics in th…

2019

Abstract Background Axial spondyloarthritis (ax-SpA) causes pain, fatigue, stiffness, loss of physical function and impaired health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Aims The study aimed to explore the changes in HRQOL over 5 years in patients with ax-SpA and to identify baseline predictors associated with changes in HRQOL assessed using three HRQOL measures. Methods Demographic, disease, medication and HRQOL data were collected at baseline and at 5-year follow-up. HRQOL was assessed using SF-6D, 15D and SF-36. Analyses involved McNemar, independent paired t tests and multiple regression. Results In the 240 (women 31%, men 69%) ax-SpA patients assessed (mean age 46 years), measures reflectin…

Essential knowledge for patients with rheumatoid arthritis or spondyloarthritis: Results of a multicentric survey in France among health professional…

2019

Abstract Objective Information and education are recommended for patients with inflammatory arthritis including rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and spondyloarthritis (SpA). However, there is no consensus on which knowledge is essential to enhance patients’ self-management. The aim of this study was to determine such knowledge. Methods Based on published knowledge questionnaires (KQs) collected by a systematic literature review, a list of items was elaborated, classified in domains and sub domains. A Delphi process was performed with rheumatologists, healthcare professionals and patients in 2014–2015, selecting the items considered useful. Results Three published KQs were analysed: 2 for RA; 1 for…

Re-treatment of Patients With Chronic Hepatitis C Who Do Not Respond to Peginterferon-[alpha]2b: A Randomized Trial

2009

BACKGROUND Many patients with chronic hepatitis C have not responded to therapy with pegylated interferon plus ribavirin. OBJECTIVE To evaluate use of peginterferon-alpha2a plus ribavirin to re-treat nonresponders to peginterferon-alpha2b plus ribavirin. DESIGN Randomized, parallel-group trial conducted between September 2003 and February 2007. Patients and researchers were not blinded to intervention assignment. Random assignment was centralized, computer-generated, and stratified by geographic region, hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype, and histologic diagnosis. SETTING 106 international centers. PATIENTS 950 nonresponders to 12 or more weeks of therapy with peginterferon-alpha2b plus ribav…

High Responders to Hypertrophic Strength Training Also Tend to Lose More Muscle Mass and Strength During Detraining Than Low Responders.

2021

Räntilä, A, Ahtiainen, JP, Avela, J, Restuccia, J, Kidgell, DJ, and Häkkinen, K. High responders to hypertrophic strength training also tend to lose more muscle mass and strength during detraining than low responders. J Strength Cond Res 35(6): 1500-1511, 2021-This study investigated differences in individual responses to muscle hypertrophy during strength training and detraining. Ten weeks of resistance training was followed by 6 weeks of detraining in men (n = 24). Bilateral leg press (LP) one-repetition maximum (1RM) and maximal electromyography (EMGs) of vastus lateralis (VL) and vastus medialis, maximal voluntary activation (VA), transcranial magnetic stimulation for corticospinal exci…

Arterial stiffness indexes and serum cytokine levels in seronegative spondyloarthritis: relationships between stiffness markers and metabolic and imm…

2015

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between immunoinflammatory markers and indexes of arterial stiffness in patients with seronegative spondyloarthritis (SpA).Method: We enrolled consecutive patients with inflammatory seronegative SpA referred to a rheumatology outpatient clinic. Control subjects were patients admitted in the same period for any cause other than chronic inflammatory disease or acute cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events. Carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV) was measured and the aortic pressure waveform was used to calculate the augmentation index (Aix). We also evaluated plasma levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin (IL)-1β…

Cervical spondylotic myelopathy: Changes of fractional anisotropy in the spinal cord and magnetic resonance spectroscopy of the primary motor cortex …

2019

Abstract Objective To determine the changes in fractional anisotropy (FA) at the proximal spinal cord and in magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) of the precentral gyrus in patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) with respect to clinical symptoms and their duration. Material and Methods 20 patients with CSM (7 female; mean age 64.6 ± 10.5 years) and 18 age/sex matched healthy controls (9 female; mean age 63.5 ± 6.6 years) were prospectively included. Clinical data (modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association Score (mJOA) and Neck Disability Index (NDI)) and 3T MR measurements including DTI at the spinal cord (level C2/3) with FA and MRS of the left and right precentral gyrus were…

Evidence-based development of school-based and family-involved prevention of overweight across Europe: The ENERGY-project's design and conceptual fra…

2010

Background There is an urgent need for more carefully developed public health measures in order to curb the obesity epidemic among youth. The overall aim of the "EuropeaN Energy balance Research to prevent excessive weight Gain among Youth" (ENERGY)-project is the development and formative evaluation of a theory-informed and evidence-based multi-component school-based and family-involved intervention program ready to be implemented and evaluated for effectiveness across Europe. This program aims at promoting the adoption or continuation of health behaviors that contribute to a healthy energy balance among school-aged children. Earlier studies have indicated that school and family environmen…
