Why women do not use the helmet when riding a bicycle

Women seem to use the helmet when riding a bicycle less frequently than men. Two possible explanations for this behavior are that 1) it is less appalling to them because of lack of comfort or other reasons, or 2) they use bicycles in a more cautious way than men so they feel that they do not need the helmet as much. The present paper explores these two explanations in 5,691 cyclists that responded to an online survey conducted in 17 countries as part of an EU COST project. Answers to questions related to the two aforementioned explanations were analyzed graphically and three questions that showed the most conspicuous differences between males and females were identified. Recientemente, algunos autores han definido distintas variables para caracterizar la atenuación lingüística en el marco de una base de datos multidimensional (Briz/Albelda; Albelda/otros). En este estudio se han seleccionado 982 elementos de atenuación de dieciocho entrevistas de español hablado; todos ellos han sido supervisados por hasta cuatro entrevistadores del proyecto Es.VaG.Atenuación. Šis darbs ir tulkojumzinātnes ieguldījums starpdisciplinārajai Latvijas un Francijas vēsturisko attiecību pētniecības nišai. Ilgu laiku Borhu dzimtas personīgā korespondence ir bijis pētniekiem nepieejams resurss, kurš tagad ir iztulkots uz latviešu valodu. Vēsturiskā korespondence ir teksta veids, kurš piedāvā īpaša veida tulkošanas izaicinājumus. Šī pētījuma mērķis ir identificēt biežāk pielietojamās tulkojuma metodes Borhu dzimtas ģimenes locekļu personīgās sarakstes tulkošanā. Spain has been hit hard by COVID-19, with more than 300 000 cases, 28 498 confirmed deaths,1 and around 44 000 excess deaths, as of Aug 4, 2020.2 More than 50 000 health workers have been infected, and nearly 20 000 deaths were in nursing homes.3 With a population of 47 million, these data place Spain among the worst affected countries. Spain is also reported to have one of the best performing health systems in the world4 and ranks 15th in the Global Health Security index.5 So how is it possible that Spain now finds itself in this position?
