Hirnantian glacial and deglacial record in SW Djado Basin (NE Niger).

Pluridisciplinary fieldwork highlights features generated by an extended ice-sheet in the Djado Basin during the Hirnantian. Two glacial palaeovalley systems associated with glacial pavements and separated by thin glaciomarine interstadial series are revealed. Rigid glacial pavements characterised by abrasion erosion are differentiated from soft glacial pavements characterised by soft-bed deformation. Glacial pavements are associated with subglacial bedforms such as megaflutes, flutes and meltwater channels. Dark chocolates develop several organoleptic characteristics depending on cocoa origin, cocoa variety and fabrication process. These parameters influence the chemical composition of the chocolates, and among other components volatile organic compounds (VOCs) responsible for aroma mainly determine their sensory perception. Sensory evaluation is able to discriminate chocolates with various organoleptic properties. Proton Transfer Reaction Mass Spectrometry (PTR-MS) is capable of monitoring VOCs released in foodstuffs headspace at ppb level in real time. Describing the taste of water is a challenge since drinking water is supposed to have almost no taste. In this study, different classical sensory methodologies have been applied in order to assess sensory features of water. Nevertheless, these methodologies present drawbacks so a new methodology based on the comparison between water samples named “Polarized Sensory Positioning” (PSP) has been developed enabling to easily define the sensory characteristics of water without presenting too many samples. Finally, this new method provides new sensory data and could be extended to other products.

International audience; The impact of continuous and pulsed ultrasound pre-treatments (15, 30 and 45 min) followed by conventional hydrodistillation on the characteristics of extracted essential oils (EOs) from dried leaves of Aloysia citriodora Palau was evaluated for the first time. Chemical composition of EOs, antibacterial and antioxidant activities, as well as the contents in heavy metals (iron, copper, lead, arsenic, and cadmium) were determined. Our aim was to develop a typology predicting potential N availability of exogenous organic matters (EOMs) in soil based on their chemical characteristics. A database of 273 EOMs was constructed including analytical data of biochemical fractionation, organic C and N, and results of N mineralization during incubation of soil–EOM mixtures in controlled conditions.
