Primitive subgroups and PST-groups

AbstractAll groups considered in this paper are finite. A subgroup $H$ of a group $G$ is called a primitive subgroup if it is a proper subgroup in the intersection of all subgroups of $G$ containing $H$ as a proper subgroup. He et al. [‘A note on primitive subgroups of finite groups’, Commun. Korean Math. Soc. 28(1) (2013), 55–62] proved that every primitive subgroup of $G$ has index a power of a prime if and only if $G/ \Phi (G)$ is a solvable PST-group. Let $\mathfrak{X}$ denote the class of groups $G$ all of whose primitive subgroups have prime power index. It is established here that a group $G$ is a solvable PST-group if and only if every subgroup of $G$ is an $\mathfrak{X}$-group.

A multiplex assay with 52 single nucleotide polymorphisms for human identification.

A total of 52 SNPs reported to be polymorphic in European, Asian and African populations were selected. Of these, 42 were from the distal regions of each autosome (except chromosome 19). Nearly all selected SNPs were located at least 100 kb distant from known genes and commonly used STRs. We established a highly sensitive and reproducible SNP-typing method with amplification of all 52 DNA fragments in one PCR reaction followed by detection of the SNPs with two single base extension reactions analysed using CE. Beyond decomposition: Processing zero-derivations in English visual word recognition

Four experiments investigate the effects of covert morphological complexity during visual word recognition. Zero-derivations occur in English in which a change of word class occurs without any change in surface form (e.g., a boat-to boat; to soak-a soak). Boat is object-derived and is a basic noun (N), whereas soak is action-derived and is a basic verb (V). As the suffix {-ing} is only attached to verbs, deriving boating from its base, requires two steps, boat(N) > boat(V) > boating(V), while soaking can be derived in one step from soak(V). We present the first record of Ptiliolum marginatum for Poland. The specimens have been extracted from two nests of the wood warbler Phylloscopus sibilatrix in 2020, during investigations of the invertebrate fauna inhabiting bird nests. The samples were collected in the strictly protected part of the Białowieża National Park, in eastern Poland. We provide general information on the geographical distribution of Ptiliolum marginatum in Europe, the state of knowledge of the genus Ptiliolum in Poland, and further documentation including colour photographs of dorsal and ventral habitus, and characteristic features of hind femora and spermatheca of females.

Collagen IV, the major component of basement membranes, is composed of six distinct alpha chains (alpha 1-alpha 6). Atypically among the collagen IV genes, the exons encoding the carboxyl-terminal region of the human alpha 3(IV) chain undergo alternative splicing. This region has been designated as the Goodpasture antigen because of its reactivity in the kidney and lung with the pathogenic autoantibodies causing Goodpasture syndrome. If P is a Sylow- p -subgroup of a finite p -solvable group G , we prove that G^\prime \cap \bf{N}_G(P) \subseteq {P} if and only if p divides the degree of every irreducible non-linear p -Brauer character of G. More generally if π is a set of primes containing p and G is π-separable, we give necessary and sufficient group theoretic conditions for the degree of every irreducible non-linear p -Brauer character to be divisible by some prime in π. This can also be applied to degrees of ordinary characters.

HEIGHTS OF CHARACTERS IN BLOCKS OF $p$-SOLVABLE GROUPS

In this paper, it is proved that if $B$ is a Brauer $p$ -block of a $p$ -solvable group, for some odd prime $p$ , then the height of any ordinary character in $B$ is at most $2b$ , where $p^b$ is the largest degree of the irreducible characters of the defect group of $B$ . Some other results that relate the heights of characters with properties of the defect group are obtained.
