Slaveries and New Slaveries: Which Role for Human Dignity?

This paper aims at reflecting on the role of the notion of "human dignity" with respect to slavery and new slaveries. First of all, a very brief reflection is carried out on the different legal meanings of the notion at stake in general terms (para. 2). Infinite games and chain conditions

We apply the theory of infinite two-person games to two well-known problems in topology: Suslin's Problem and Arhangel'skii's problem on $G_\delta$ covers of compact spaces. More specifically, we prove results of which the following two are special cases: 1) every linearly ordered topological space satisfying the game-theoretic version of the countable chain condition is separable and 2) in every compact space satisfying the game-theoretic version of the weak Lindel\"of property, every cover by $G_\delta$ sets has a continuum-sized subcollection whose union is $G_\delta$-dense.

"Facta non verba" : an experiment on pledging and giving

International audience; We design an experiment to investigate whether asking people to state how much they will donate to a charity (i.e., to pledge) increases their actual donation. Individuals’ endowment is either certain or a random variable. We study different types of pledges, namely, private, public and irrevocable, which differ in terms of the cost to the individual for not keeping the promise. Engaging learners through virtual worlds

Abstract The aim of this paper is to explore how virtual worlds could support the engagement for learning. This paper reviews the results of studies that utilized virtual worlds to engage learners. The results are examined in two levels, namely learning gains and design principles. It has been found out that deeper learner engagement results in higher learning gains. In some studies better content retention is also noted. Many studies also suggest design principles for using virtual worlds for facilitating engaged learning. This paper builds a framework for the design and use of virtual worlds in education for better learner engagement.
