Stochastic model for electrical loads in Mediterranean residential building: validation and applications

A major issue in modelling the electrical load of residential building is reproducing the variability between dwellings due to the stochastic use of different electrical equipment. In that sense and with the objective to reproduce this variability, a stochastic model to obtain load profiles of household electricity is developed. The model is based on a probabilistic approach and is developed using data from the Mediterranean region of Spain. A detailed validation of the model has been done, analysing and comparing the results with Spanish and European data. Ecohydrological modelling of flow duration curve in Mediterranean river basins

Abstract Flow duration curve provides an important synthesis of the relevant hydrological processes occurring at the basin scale, and, although it is typically obtained from field observations, different theoretical approaches finalized to its indirect reconstruction have been developed in recent years. In this study a recent ecohydrological model for the probabilistic characterization of base flows is tested through its application to a study catchment located in southern Italy, where long historical series of daily streamflow are available. Probabilistic characterization of nonlinear systems under Poisson white noise via complex fractional moments

In this paper, the probabilistic characterization of a nonlinear system enforced by Poissonian white noise in terms of complex fractional moments (CFMs) is presented. The main advantage in using such quantities, instead of the integer moments, relies on the fact that, through the CFMs the probability density function (PDF) is restituted in the whole domain. In fact, the inverse Mellin transform returns the PDF by performing integration along the imaginary axis of the Mellin transform, while the real part remains fixed. Probabilistic characterization of nonlinear systems under Poisson white noise parametric input via complex fractional moments

In this paper the probabilistic characterization of a nonlinear system enforced by parametric Poissonian white noise in terms of complex fractional moments is presented. In fact the initial system driven by a parametric input could be transformed into a system with an external type of excitation through an invertible nonlinear transformation. It is shown that by using Mellin transform theorem and related concepts, the solution of the Kolmogorov-Feller equation for the system with external input may be obtained in a very easy way.

Deterministic versus probabilistic consequences of trust and trustworthiness: An experimental investigation

Abstract There is overwhelming evidence of reciprocal behavior, driven by intentions. However, the role of consequences is less clear cut. Experimentally manipulating how efficient trust and reciprocity can be in deterministic and uncertain environments allows us to study how payoff consequences of trust and trustworthiness affect reciprocity. According to the results for our modified Investment Game, trustees reward trust more when trust is more efficient but do not adjust rewards when the efficiency of rewarding is varied. Furthermore, higher deterministic benefits result in higher levels of reciprocity for all trust levels, whereas an uncertain environment diminishes reciprocity.

Discerning between the concepts of difficulty and usefulness of a molecular ranking classification is of significant importance in virtual design chemistry. Here, both concepts are viewed from the statistical and practical point of view according to the standard definitions of enrichment and statistical significance p-values. These parameters are useful not only to compare distinct rankings obtained for the same molecular database, but also in order to compare the ones established in distinct molecular sets from an objective point of view.

The Random Neural Network Model for the On-line Multicast Problem

In this paper we propose the adoption of the Random Neural Network Model for the solution of the dynamic version of the Steiner Tree Problem in Networks (SPN). The Random Neural Network (RNN) is adopted as a heuristic capable of improving solutions achieved by previously proposed dynamic algorithms. We adapt the RNN model in order to map the network characteristics during a multicast transmission. The proposed methodology is validated by means of extensive experiments.

Probabilistic Flood Hazard Mapping Using Bivariate Analysis Based on Copulas

This study presents a methodology to extract probabilistic flood hazard maps in an area subject to flood risk, taking into account uncertainties in the definition of design hydrographs. Particularly, the authors present a new method to produce probabilistic inundation and flood hazard maps in which the hydrological input (i.e., synthetic flood design event) to a 2D hydraulic model has been obtained by using a bivariate statistical analysis (copulas) to generate flood peak discharges and volumes. Quantum Finite One-Counter Automata

In this paper the notion of quantum finite one-counter automata (QF1CA) is introduced. Introduction of the notion is similar to that of the 2-way quantum finite state automata in [1]. The well-formedness conditions for the automata are specified ensuring unitarity of evolution. A special kind of QF1CA, called simple, that satisfies the well-formedness conditions is introduced. That allows specify rules for constructing such automata more naturally and simpler than in general case. Possible models of language recognition by QF1CA are considered. The recognition of some languages by QF1CA is shown and compared with recognition by probabilistic counterparts.
