Separation of Concerns and Role Implementation in the PASSI Design Process
2007
The use of design patterns proved successful in lowering the development time and number of errors when producing software with the object-oriented paradigm. In previous works we engaged the production of a tool for the reuse of patterns for multi-agent systems. Now we are fronting a new problem: automatic code generation for agents, designed with a specific methodology, with the support of design patterns and using an aspect oriented approach. In this work we present our preliminary experiences in the identification, description, production and use of aspects for multi agent systems and a tool for code production.
New frontiers for psychology and education: Robotics
2004
The paper reviews the first attempts to study the educational and psychological usefulness of robotics: (1) the social and cooperative dimensions involved in the robot-building activities; (2) the reasoning strategies implied in building and programming robots; (3) the influences of robotics on mathematical and scientific achievement; (4) the use of robotics in modification of social skills of autistic children.
Frequency format facilitates reasoning in simple numerical tasks.
2005
This study examined whether it is easier to reason in terms of frequencies or with percentages for simple numerical tasks. Research on probabilistic reasoning has shown that humans can draw correct inferences when problems are presented in terms of natural frequencies but not when in percentages. Whether the same effect can be observed in other numerically simple tasks which are not probabilistic was studied with 40 undergraduate students who volunteered for the experiment (13 men, 27 women; M age of 23 yr.). In a simple numerical task involving frequencies or percentages ( N = 20), their performance showed representation in frequencies facilitates the task.
Educational Robotics to Improve Mathematical and Metacognitive Skills
2017
This paper describes the use of robotic kits as tools in developing mathematical and metacognitive skills, as the planning, reasoning and problem solving capabilities in young students. A sample of 30 students involved in an extracurricular laboratory based on robotics activities (10 meetings; three hours each, once a week). Quantitative and qualitative data showed that robotics activities may be intended as a new metacognitive environment that allows students to improve the attitude in mathematics, or increase the propensity to reflect on themselves and on their own learning, and higher-level control components, such as forecasting, planning, monitoring and evaluation exercises and problem…
Educational Robotics to develop of executive functions visual spatial abilities, planning and problem solving
2018
Educational robotics is an innovative learning tool that offers students the opportunities to develop higher-order thinking skills. This research aims to verify the effectiveness of educational robotics on the mental processes of planning and problem solving. Robotics education involved in a curricular laboratory (10 meetings, two hours each, once a week) with 15 children, attending their fifth year at primary school. The proposed methodology was divided into three phases: Pre-test, Practice and Post-Test. The main finding was a significant improvement in visuo-spatial attention and a significant effect on robot programming skills. These data provide scientific support to the hypothesis tha…
Mathematics and Music: a paradigmatic pair for basic learning
2012
The aim of the trial path described in this article is to highlight the possibility to develop intuition, analysis and synthesis abilities, which are typical of the logical - deductive mathematical thought, in primary school children (2nd class), through a significant approach to musical education, meant as systematic analysis of the sound parameters, which characterize and qualify its language. The Vygotskijan theoretical framework, which leads and interprets the didactic engineering proposed in class, emphasizes how the Mathematics - Music pair has promoted the changeover among different semiotic registers (Duval 2002), referred to Natural, iconographic, musical, geometric and pre - algeb…
Medicina legale orientata per problemi
2011
Reservoir computing model of prefrontal cortex creates novel combinations of previous navigation sequences from hippocampal place-cell replay with sp…
2019
As rats learn to search for multiple sources of food or water in a complex environment, they generate increasingly efficient trajectories between reward sites. Such spatial navigation capacity involves the replay of hippocampal place-cells during awake states, generating small sequences of spatially related place-cell activity that we call “snippets”. These snippets occur primarily during sharp-wave-ripples (SWRs). Here we focus on the role of such replay events, as the animal is learning a traveling salesperson task (TSP) across multiple trials. We hypothesize that snippet replay generates synthetic data that can substantially expand and restructure the experience available and make learni…
