Reasons for Older Adult Participation in University Programs in Spain

This study examined the reasons expressed by older adults for attending a university program in Barcelona (Spain). Results were based on the responses of 36 elders to questions from a semistructured interview. These were (a) reasons for joining a university course and (b) factors that prevent enrolling in that course. Participants mentioned more expressive than instrumental reasons for participating in a university program. Most mentioned barriers to entering university that were lack of interest, lack of self-confidence, health problems, and limited information. These results are discussed in the context of new strategies to improve university courses aimed at the elderly.

Issues in Software Inspection Practices

The motivation for this research comes from a need to improve software inspection practices in software organizations. Even if inspections are well defined and regularly used in an organization, there may be some problems which can greatly reduce inspection effectiveness. The paper presents a list of inspection related problems which are known in the literature. It also relates some experiences from two case organizations. In addition, this paper provides an approach which helps identifying problems of this kind and directing limited improvement resources effectively.

Existence of a traveling wave solution in a free interface problem with fractional order kinetics

Abstract In this paper we consider a system of two reaction-diffusion equations that models diffusional-thermal combustion with stepwise ignition-temperature kinetics and fractional reaction order 0 α 1 . We turn the free interface problem into a scalar free boundary problem coupled with an integral equation. The main intermediary step is to reduce the scalar problem to the study of a non-Lipschitz vector field in dimension 2. Il contributo ha l’obiettivo di studiare alcuni casi di ricostruzione dell’abside eseguiti in edifici chiesastici palermitani nella seconda metà del XVI secolo. Si tratta delle chiese di San Sebastiano, San Francesco d’Assisi e San Martino delle Scale (all’interno dell’omonima abbazia), in cui, nella seconda metà del Cinquecento, per motivi liturgici, l’abside originaria viene “trasformata”, in un’abside “piatta”, al fine di potervi inserire il Coro ligneo. These are the churches of St. Sebastiano St. Francesco d’Assisi and St. Martino delle Scale (in the homonymous monastery) in wichfor liturgical reasons the original apse was "transformed" in a "flat" apse to insert in it the wooden choir. The new positioning of the choir after the Tridentine Reform was a central issue in the Europe of the modern age so even in Palermo there were some debates and controversies about this problem. The change of the shape of the apse determined in fact some considerable constructive problems related to its coverage.

Energy load Behaviours of Sicilian Hotel: methods for reducing the annual consumptions of bungalow hotels in the Mediterranean area

Starting from the analysis of the energy consumption of some typical Sicilian hotels, it has been possible to assess their annual energy load behaviours, by source type. In addition, it has been also developed a simple model of the annual consumption, by kind of energy load. This approach allowed the comparison of true load-type energy consumption with typical load-type benchmark values (e.g. lighting consumption). Settore L-FIL-LET/12 - Linguistica ItalianaAmong the «Editorial problems» that emerged during the control and organization of the materials coming from the survey campaign of the Atlante Linguistico del Mediterraneo (ALM) Berruto (1971-1973) notes the proliferation and heterogeneity of some graphemic choices made by different field researchers. As they were engaged in a more or less punctual transcription of the answers obtained they had interpreted and solved differently some of the directions provided in the phonetic transcription system that accompanied the Questionnaire. The picture relating to the transcription of some consonants of the palatal sector had emerged as particularly complex since the graphemes (and the corresponding phones) foreseen in the original system (ALM 1959) were insufficient. Not even the 1971 updates meant to improve the representation of some phonetic features emerged from the investigations in the operations of Response reviewing allowed to obtain a clear homogeneous picture regarding the «plosive palatal» consonants. With regard to the phonetic trait under scrutiny I have already had the opportunity to propose a path aiming to the achievement of possible operational solutions. This has taken place in view of the planned simplification / homologation and transcoding phase from the ALM original system to the IPA one - while proceeding from the examination of the Schedoni’s current state with regard to the surveys referring to central-southern Italy Corsica and Sicily (see Matranga 2019). The scope is now to investigate the same phonetic trait as proven in the materials about the surveys carried out by Lirak Dodbiba in the ALM’s three Albanian points.

Aims.Many studies of various stress reactive phenotypes suggest that 5-HTTLPR short allele carriers (S-carriers) are characterised by the stable trait of negative affectivity that is converted to psychopathology only under conditions of stress. Emotional and meta-emotional intelligence as predictors of adjustment problems in students with Specific Learning Disorders

The purpose of this study was to analyse adjustment problems in a group of adolescents with a Specific Learning Disorder (SLD), examining to what extent they depend on the severity level of the learning disorder and/or on the individual‟s level of emotional intelligence. Adjustment problems,, perceived severity levels of SLD, and emotional and meta-emotional intelligence were examined in 34 adolescents with SLD. The relationship between emotion regulation, emotion knowledge and adjustment in preschoolers: A mediation model.

The study explored the total, direct and indirect effects of emotion knowledge on adjustment in preschoolers ans examined whether emotion regulation mediated the relationships between emotion knowledge and adjustment (social competence, and behavioral difficulties, such as anxiety–withdrawal and anger–aggression). Two hundred forty children (118 boys and 122 girls) from 3 to 5 years of age (mean age = 4.23, SD = .80) were administered a vocabulary test to check their verbal ability and a measure of emotion knowledge.
