Non-conscious effect of food odors on children's food choices varies by weight status
2017
Open access original research (article number UNSP 16); OBJECTIVE: Food cues are omnipresent in the daily environment and may influence eating behavior even non-consciously. An increased reactivity to food cues, such as food odors, has been shown to be correlated with obesity in children. The objective of this study is to investigate whether the non-conscious influence of food odors on children's food choices varies by their weight status. METHODS: Seventy-four children, of whom 29 were obese, took part in this study. The children performed a food choice intention task presented as a computer game in which 30 pairs of food images (a fatty-sweet food picture vs. a fruit picture) successively…
Kriminālprocesa lietderīguma un obligātuma principi
2020
Bakalaura darba “Kriminālprocesa lietderīguma un obligātuma principi” veltīts divu kriminālprocesa būtiskāko principu izcelsmes, nozīmes un savstarpējās sasaistes izpētei. Eiropā pastāv vienots uzskats, ka pieaugošais noziedzīgo nodarījumu skaits un noslodze uz prokuroru un tiesām palēnina kriminālprocesa virzību un tādējādi kavē taisnīguma nodibināšanu, kas rada nepieciešamību likvidēt šo problēmu, paredzot plašāku lietderīguma principa piemērošanu valstu tiesību sistēmās. Obligātuma princips neparedz procesa virzītājam rīcības brīvību veikt lietderības apsvērumus. Lietderīguma princips palielina prokurora lomu kriminālprocesā, nosakot tam tiesības pieņemt tādus lēmumus/sankcijas, ko oblig…
Convergence Analysis of Extended Kalman Filter for Sensorless Control of Induction Motor
2015
This paper deals with convergence analysis of the extended Kalman filters (EKFs) for sensorless motion control systems with induction motor (IM). An EKF is tuned according to a six-order discrete-time model of the IM, affected by system and measurement noises, obtained by applying a first-order Euler discretization to a six-order continuous-time model. Some properties of the discrete-time model have been explored. Among these properties, the observability property is relevant, which leads to conditions that can be directly linked with the working conditions of the machine. Starting from these properties, the convergence of the stochastic state estimation process, in mean square sense, has b…
Organisational climate and employee health outcomes: a systematic review
2019
Organisational climate, particularly safety climate, has been documented as a crucial element in promoting occupational health and safety. However, most previous studies have focused more on safety issues (e.g., injuries and accidents) rather than health outcomes (e.g., illnesses, stress, etc). A comprehensive review is also lacking in relation to understanding the organisational climate–health relationship between different levels of analysis, different data sources and different analytical procedures. We conducted a systematic review to investigate previous scholarly contributions to organisational climate and health. The reviewed articles were obtained from three databases: ISI Web of Kn…
Evidence of neonatal memory of odor configuration
2013
The perception of some mixtures of odorants engages configural abilities, i.e. the perception of these mixtures as single odor objects. For instance, data in human adults demonstrated that a mixture of two odorants (AB), one smelling like strawberry and the other like caramel, generates the configural perception of the odor of pineapple (Le Berre et al., 2008; Barkat et al., 2012). Configural processing may be adaptive also for young organisms, to which rapid extraction of chemical information from the maternal environment, highly complex, is a prerequisite to survival. Thus, results in newborn rabbits suggest the perception of a unique odor in the AB mixture (smelling like configural pinea…
Towards Process Centered Architecting for Quantum Software Systems
2022
Quantum Software Engineering (QSE) is a recent trend - focused on unifying the principles of quantum mechanics and practices of software engineering - to design, develop, validate, and evolve quantum age software systems and applications. Software architecture for quantum computing (a.k. a. quantum software architectures (QSA)) supports the design, development, and maintenance etc. phases of quantum software systems using architectural components and connectors. QSA can enable quantum software designers and developers to map the operations of Qubits to architectural components and connectors for implementing quantum software. This research aims to explore the role of QSAs by investigating (…
Vecākā pirmsskolas vecuma bērnu satiksmes noteikumu apguves sekmēšana pedagoģiskajā procesā
2018
The odour of human milk: Its chemical variability and detection by newborns
2019
International audience; Human milk odour has for long elicited research interest with regard to its function in breastfeeding initiation. The present review aims to provide an overview of the behavioural effects of human milk odour in the human neonate, considering different types of response measures in a feeding or non-feeding context. Further, an overview of the current knowledge of odorant composition and factors influencing milk odour is provided by summarizing results from analytical studies using olfactometry, and addressing changes in milk odour due to storage, lactational stage, and maternal dietary intake of odorous substances. We finally highlight some issues for future research.
Deadlock in corporate governance: Finding a common strategy for private telephone companies, 1978–1998
2017
This paper looks at how a group of small, incumbent private telephone companies complied with the international convergence of market structures. The existing research has mainly focused on large national incumbents, assuming a transition to multinational enterprise. This development process is often associated with privatisation policies and various institutional factors. The article tests these assumptions using a case study of the network of Finnish local telephone companies. It looks at the development of an interfirm network, its perspectives on the different phases of the deregulation process, and how the network tried to regenerate itself but failed to form a unified corporate struct…
