Isothermal relaxation of discommensurations in K2ZnCl4

1994

At the incommensurate-ferroelectric transition temperature T c of K 2 ZnCl 4 , the dielectric susceptibility contains an anomalous contribution both above and below T c . Previous quasi-static dielectric measurements and hysteresis loops demonstrated that this anomalous part arises from the peculiar dynamics of discommensurations. We have used isothermal dielectric measurements to get some insight into the long time dynamics of these discommensurations. We have found that the characteristic relaxation times τ are of the order of 10 4 s in the incommensurate and in the ferroelectric phase. Even more unusual is a non-monotonous relaxation which is observed in a restricted temperature range ab…

Experimental and numerical investigation on a new FSW based metal to composite joining technique

2018

Abstract In the last decades, different techniques were proposed to join aluminum sheets with composites materials. Each of them has advantages and weak points over the others and new techniques and patents are continuously developed to overcome these difficulties. In this paper an experimental and numerical investigation on a new Friction Stir Welding based approach to mechanically join AA6082-T6 to self-reinforced polypropylene is presented. The aluminum sheet is pre-holed along both the sides of the weld line and a pinless tool generates the heat and pressure needed to prompt back-extrusion of the composite. New experimental fixtures and hole designs were investigated in order to enhance…

Tandem laser-gas metal arc welding joining of 20 mm thick super duplex stainless steel: An experimental and numerical study

2020

The present work covers the topic of strains and stresses prediction in case of welded steel structures. Steel sheets of 20 mm thickness made in UR™2507Cu are welded using a laser and gas metal arc welding processes combination. The focused laser beam leads the arc in a Y-shape chamfer geometry. Both sources are 20 mm apart from each other in order to avoid any synergic effect with each other. In order to predict residual strain, a 3D unsteady numerical simulation has been developed in COMSOL finite element software. A volume heat source has been identified based on the temperature measurements made by 10 K-type thermocouples, implanted inside the workpiece. The 50 mm deep holes are drille…

Performance evaluation and stability of silicide-based thermoelectric modules

2020

Abstract Long-term studies on thermoelectric generators based on N-type magnesium silicide (Mg2.01Si0.49Sn0.5Sb0.01) and P-type higher manganese silicide (Mn0.98Mo0.02Si1.73Ge0.02) materials are presented, in the operating temperature range of 200 °C–400 °C. Emphasis is put on the performance and reliability of the current collector configuration, especially on the hot side of the module, and on the thermomechanical stresses that are created during operation and lifetime testing as a result of large temperature gradients experienced across the thermoelectric legs. With silver (Ag) paste as contact material, the long term-stability of the uni-couples was carried out on non-metalized legs and…

Temperature dependence of luminescence of LiF crystals doped with different metal oxides

2020

Photoluminescence and cathodoluminescence of LiF crystals doped with different binary metal oxides were measured in the wide temperature range of 50-300 K and time interval of 10−8−10−1 s after the nanosecond electron excitation pulse. Both as-grown those and crystals irradiated by an electron beam in range of absorbed dose up to 103 Gy were studied. It is shown that spectral-kinetic characteristics of the luminescence depend on the absorbed dose (type of created/accumulated color centers), the irradiation temperature, the concentration of hydroxyl, which promotes incorporation of the MeO complex (Me: W, Ti, Fe, Li) into the crystal lattice, and the cation-dopants.

Continuous hydrothermal synthesis in supercritical conditions as a novel process for the elaboration of Y-doped BaZrO3

2021

Abstract The present work describes a novel process for the elaboration of a ceramic material. Y-doped barium zirconate, an electrolyte material for Protonic Ceramic Fuel cell, was synthesized by a continuous hydrothermal process in supercritical conditions (410 °C/30.0 MPa) using nitrate precursors and NaOH reactants. The use of supercritical water allowed the formation of particles of about 50 nm in diameter with a narrow size distribution. X-Ray Diffraction examination revealed that a major perovskite phase with few BaCO3 and YO(OH) impurities was obtained. BaCO3 is assumed to form due to faster kinetics than Y-doped BaZrO3 resulting in a Ba-deficient perovskite phase. The Ba-deficiency …

Corrosion of Welded Metal Structures of Mining Equipment

2018

Mining equipment made of welded metal structures is strongly affected by the corrosion phenomenon due to the working conditions. Initial research has shown that the corrosion phenomenon is most pronounced in the area of cross-welded joints and welded T-shaped joints. In the researches, there was made a chemical analysis of the welded construction material used respectively of the new material and it was observed a reduction in carbon concentration in the material used, but also a substantial increase in the sulfur concentration compared to the new material. The pronounced corrosion of the metallic structure is influenced by the chemical composition change because the sulfur is a grafitizin…

Validation of a 3D mathematical model for feed rod melting during floating zone Si crystal growth

2019

Abstract A mathematical model of global 3D heat transfer in floating zone silicon single crystal growth process is used to predict the shape of the open melting front of the feed rod. The model is validated using measurement data from research-scale growth experiments. Shape profiles of the open melting front are obtained from the feed rod leftover using a movable dial gauge. Azimuthal asymmetry of the rim of the open melting front is revealed in both simulations and measurements, quantitatively indicating the influence of the main slit of the inductor.
