Treatment of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the most common and aggressive lethal brain tumor, represents a great challenge. Despite decades of research, the survival prognosis of GBM patients is unfavorable and more effective therapeutics are sorely required. A new gene superfamily of pathogen-response (repat) genes in Lepidoptera: Classification and expression analysis

Repat (REsponse to PAThogens) genes were first identified in the midgut of Spodoptera exigua (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) in response to Bacillus thuringiensis and baculovirus exposure. Since then, additional repat gene homologs have been identified in different studies. In this study the comprehensive larval transcriptome from S. exigua was analyzed for the presence of novel repat-homolog sequences. These analyses revealed the presence of at least 46 repat genes in S. exigua, establishing a new gene superfamily in this species. Mature grapevine berries at the harvesting stage (MB) are very susceptible to the gray mold fungus Botrytis cinerea, while veraison berries (VB) are not. We conducted simultaneous microscopic and transcriptomic analyses of the pathogen and the host to investigate the infection process developed by B. cinerea on MB versus VB, and the plant defense mechanisms deployed to stop the fungus spreading. Some previous studies have reported that a given cultivar of blackcurrant can produce berries with a specific profile of volatile compounds. This transition is associated with exclusion from the GC microenvironment. SummaryPolycomb group (PcG) proteins are conserved epigenetic transcriptional repressors that control numerous developmental gene expression programs and have recently been implicated in modulating embryonic stem cell (ESC) fate. We identified the PcG protein PCL2 (polycomb-like 2) in a genome-wide screen for regulators of self-renewal and pluripotency and predicted that it would play an important role in mouse ESC-fate determination. The paper presents a method for estimating the efficiency of the manual nesting process. By using the graphic file generated during the nesting process and using image processing techniques, the method allows the user to calculate the percentage of material used for manufacturing the parts. The method combines a manual approach - the user has to select some specific points on the graphic file with the mouse, with some image processing algorithms form Matlab software package.

Researches Regarding Optimising the Contouring Precision of CNC Laser Cutting Machines

This paper presents some experimental researches regarding the manufacturing accuracy of a profiling machine together with an approach to eliminate the positioning and contouring errors. A mathematical model based on transfer functions is used as starting approach in order to tune the feed drives of the machine. The accuracy of the profiling machine is tested before and after the tuning process, in order to validate the proposed approach. There are unfolded both positioning tests along one axis and contouring tests on two axes.
