Improving the Manufacturing Accuracy of the Profiling Machines

2010

Abstract This paper presents the results of theoretical and experimental researches carried out with regard to the optimization of the dynamic behavior of a CNC laser cutting machine, in terms of cutting precision, for the case of flat metallic parts whose contours comprise right angles and which a profiling machine has to process continuously, without stopping in the corner points. It is aimed especially at detailing the influence of the numerical control equipment's setup on the size of the contouring errors and on the smoothness of the movement, factors that have a direct influence on the accuracy and that have been less addressed until now. The theoretical researches indicate that it is…

Method for improving the contouring accuracy for CNC profiling machines at the shop floor level

2009

Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) laser cutting machines are capable of producing high-quality precise parts. However, as cutting speeds is increased, in order to achieve higher productivity, the accuracy of the parts is affected. In order to improve the contouring accuracy of these machines, a simple straight-forward joint simulation and experimental strategy is proposed. The position controllers within the feed drives are considered the key factor in improving the dynamic behavior and consequently the contouring accuracy of a CNC laser cutting machine at the shop floor level.

Run-time profiling of functional logic programs

2005

In this work, we introduce a profiling scheme for modern functional logic languages covering notions like laziness, sharing, and non-determinism. Firstly, we instrument a natural (big-step) semantics in order to associate a symbolic cost to each basic operation (e.g., variable updates, function unfoldings, case evaluations). While this cost semantics provides a formal basis to analyze the cost of a computation, the implementation of a cost-augmented interpreter based on it would introduce a huge overhead. Therefore, we also introduce a sound transformation that instruments a program such that its execution—under the standard semantics—yields not only the corresponding results but also the a…

Defect incorporation in In-containing layers and quantum wells: Experimental analysis via deep level profiling and optical spectroscopy

2020

Abstract Recent studies demonstrated that the performance of InGaN/GaN quantum well (QW) light emitting diodes (LEDs) can be significantly improved through the insertion of an InGaN underlayer (UL). The current working hypothesis is that the presence of the UL reduces the density of non-radiative recombination centers (NRCs) in the QW itself: during the growth of the UL, surface defects are effectively buried in the UL, without propagating towards the QW region. Despite the importance of this hypothesis, the concentration profile of defects in the quantum wells of LEDs with and without the UL was never investigated in detail. This paper uses combined capacitance-voltage and steady-state pho…

Detection system for depth profiling of radiotracers

2002

A reliable and efficient detection system essentially needed in the depth profiling of radiotracers consisting of two large PIN-diode arrays has been constructed. The requirements put forward to the detector system and the ability of the PIN-diode array to meet these demands are discussed. A comparison to a conventionally used liquid scintillation detector is presented by measuring an as-implanted 31Si profile in amorphous T21 ceramic by both apparatuses.

The Use of Rule-Based and QSPR Approaches in ADME Profiling: A Case Study on Caco-2 Permeability.

2013

During the early ADME profiling the development of simple, interpretable and reliable in silico tools is very important. In this study, rule-based and QSPR approaches were investigated using a large Caco-2 permeability database. Three permeability classes were determined: high (H), moderate (M) and low (L). The main physicochemical properties related with permeability were ranked as follows: Polar Surface Area (PSA)>Lipophilicity (logP/logD)>Molecular Weight (MW)>number of Hydrogen Bond donors and acceptors>Ionization State>number of Rotatable Bonds>number of Rings. The best rule, based on the combination of PSA-MW-logD (3PRule), was able to identify the H, M and L classes with accuracy of …

An adaptive approach to learning the preferences of users in a social network using weak estimators

2012

Published version of an article in the journal: Journal of Information Processing Systems. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.3745/JIPS.2012.8.2.191 - Open Access Since a social network by definition is so diverse, the problem of estimating the preferences of its users is becoming increasingly essential for personalized applications, which range from service recommender systems to the targeted advertising of services. However, unlike traditional estimation problems where the underlying target distribution is stationary; estimating a user's interests typically involves non-stationary distributions. The consequent time varying nature of the distribution to be tracked i…

Profiling in Algorithm-Based Decisions: An African Perspective

2023

The chapter explores the experience of algorithm-based decisions in Africa, and how non-African players are using artificial intelligence to enhance their presence in Africa. The chapter then looks at how some of the legal systems of Africa are adapting to deal with this phenomenon in the related jurisdictions.

COX-2-dependent and COX-2-independent mode of action of celecoxib in human liver cancer cells.

2011

Celecoxib (Celebrex((R)), Pfizer) is a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor with chemopreventive and antitumor effects. However, it is now well known that celecoxib has several COX-2-independent activities. To better understand COX-2-independent molecular mechanisms underlying the antitumor activity of celecoxib, we investigated the expression profile of the celecoxib-treated COX-2-positive (Huh7) and COX-2-negative (HepG2) liver cancer cell lines, using microarray analysis. Celecoxib treatment resulted in significantly altered expression levels of 240 and 403 transcripts in Huh7 and HepG2 cells, respectively. Confirmation of the microarray results was performed for selected genes b…
