This paper considers the problem of local capacity H ∞ control for a class of production networks of autonomous work systems with time-varying delays in the capacity changes. The system under consideration is modelled in a discrete-time singular form. Attention is focused on the design of a controller gain for the local capacity adjustments which maintains the work in progress (WIP) in each work system in the vicinity of planned levels and guarantees the asymptotic stability of the system and reduces the effect of the disturbance input on the controlled output to a prescribed level. Design on fuzzy control for a class of stochastic nonlinear systems

The problem of Hankel-norm output feedback control is solved for a class of T-S fuzzy stochastic systems. The dynamic output feedback controller design technique is proposed by employing fuzzy-basis-dependent Lyapunov function approach and the conversion on the Hankel-norm controller parameters. Sufficient conditions are established to design the controllers such that the resulting closed-loop system is stochastically stable and satisfies a prescribed performance. FPGA Implementation Of Diffusive Realization For A Distributed Control Operator

International audience; We focus on the question of real-time computation for optimal distributed filtering or control applicable to MEMS Arrays. We present an algorithm for the realization of a linear operator solution to a functional equation through its application to a Lyapunov operatorial equation associated to the heat equation in one dimension. It is based on the diffusive realization, and turns to be well suited for fined grained parallel computer architecture as Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA). An effective FPGA implementation has been successfully carried out. Here, we report the main implementation steps and the final measured performances.
Stabilization of a Class of Stochastic Nonlinear Systems

This paper addresses two control schemes for stochastic nonlinear systems. Firstly, an adaptive controller is designed for a class of motion equations. Then, a robust finite-time control scheme is proposed to stabilize a class of nonlinear stochastic systems. The stability of the closed-loop systems is established based on stochastic Lyapunov stability theorems. Links between these two methods are given. The efficiency of the control schemes is evaluated using numerical simulations.

Often customer information services or virtual support guides make use of friendly interface to facilitate human-machine interaction. Indeed, virtual guided tours or helpdesks use a talking anthropomorphic head to communicate with the user. In this paper, we present a talking head for Smart phones, PDAs and, in general, all the mobile devices able to support J2ME and MIDP protocol. The objective of this article is to illustrate how to make such an interface as portable as possible by maximizing the limited computational resources of these devices.

The epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a biological process in which cells lose cell-cell contacts and become motile. EMT is used during development, for example, in triggering neural crest migration, and in cancer metastasis. Despite progress, the dynamics of JNK signaling, its role in genomewide transcriptional reprogramming, and involved downstream effectors during EMT remain largely unknown. Here, we show that JNK is not required for initiation, but progression of phenotypic changes associated with EMT. Simulation of PLL with impulse signals in MATLAB: Limitations, hidden oscillations, and pull-in range

The limitations of PLL simulation are demonstrated on an example of phase-locked loop with triangular phase detector characteristic. It is shown that simulation in MatLab may not reveal periodic oscillations (e.g. such as hidden oscillations) and thus may lead to unreliable conclusions on the width of pull-in range.
Tool support for MOLA

AbstractThe paper describes the MOLA Tool, which supports the model transformation language MOLA. MOLA Tool consists of two parts: MOLA definition environment and MOLA execution environment. MOLA definition environment is based on the GMF (Generic Modeling Framework) and contains graphical editors for metamodels and MOLA diagrams, as well as the MOLA compiler. The main component of MOLA execution environment is a MOLA virtual machine, which performs model transformations, using an SQL database as a repository. The execution environment may be used as a plug-in for Eclipse based modeling tools (e.g., IBM Rational RSA). The current status of the tool is truly academic.
Down and out in Italian towns: Measuring the impact of economic downturns on crime

The paper investigates the effect of local economic conditions on crime. The study focuses on Italy’s local labor markets and analyzes the response of crime to the severe slump of 2007-2011. It shows that the downturn led to a significant increase in economic-related offenses that do not require particular criminal skills or tools (namely, thefts).
Quantification and classification of high-resolution magic angle spinning data for brain tumor diagnosis.

The goal of this work is to propose a complete protocol (preprocessing, processing and classification) for classifying brain tumors with proton high-resolution magic-angle spinning ((1)H HR-MAS) data. The different steps of the procedure are detailed and discussed. Feature extraction techniques such as peak integration, including also the automated quantitation method AQSES, were combined with linear (LDA) and non-linear (least-squares support vector machine or LS-SVM) classifiers. Classification accuracy was assessed using a stratified random sampling scheme.
