In Finland, the most radical ongoing school reform is fading out the borders around school subjects to better prepare young people for future challenges. The new National curricular guidelines include phenomenon - based learning (PhBL) at all school levels. This article describes a project called “The art based methods in developing transversal competence” funded by The Finnish National Board of Education. The article is based on the hermeneutic phenomenological approach in action research. The project developed learning environments as well as project-based learning with emphasis on the art-based methods and transversal competence approach to learning. Minimal Learning Machine (MLM) is a recently popularized supervised learning method, which is composed of distance-regression and multilateration steps. The computational complexity of MLM is dominated by the solution of an ordinary least-squares problem. Several different solvers can be applied to the resulting linear problem. Tiivistelmä: Tutkielmani käsittelee Yrjö Kokon satua Pessi ja Illusia (1944) subtekstinä Johanna Sinisalon fantasiaromaanissa Ennen päivänlaskua ei voi (2000). Näkökulmani subtekstisyyteen on Kiril Taranovskyn subtekstianalyysi ja sen liittyminen kirjoittamiseen ja tekijyyteen. Subteksisyyden kautta tarkasteltuna lukeminen on olennainen osa kirjoittamisprosessia. Sinisalon romaani ammentaa monin tavoin Kokon sadusta: Ennen päivänlaskua ei voi sisältää paljon samankaltaisia elementtejä kuin Pessi ja Illusia sekä teemoiltaan että aihepiireiltään ja juonenkäänteiltään.
