Ibn al-Muqaffa, m. nel 757 circa, viene considerato il padre dela prosa araba classica. Qui si presenta per la pria volta in traduzione itaiana, l'Adab al-Kabir, manuale del perfetto segrtario e omo di corte. Un vero e proprio codice di comportamento morale teso alla perfezione degli umani costumi, in cui dar prova di finezza e garbo, saper gestire ogni cosa utile all'uomo di mondo senza perdere di vista la propria dignità di letterato. Infine, secondo una prospettiva islamica, costui deve saper tendere alla legittima ricompensa terrena per il suo concreto agire, ma ancor più a quello celeste.

The new 26-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-3beta,26-dihydroxy-20,22-seco-25(R)-furost-5-en-20,22-dione-3-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1-->4)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1-->4)-[alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1-->2)]-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1), along with the known methyl protodioscin (2), asperoside (3) and prosapogenin A of dioscin (4) were isolated from the rhizomes of Dioscorea cayenensis LAM.-HOLL (Dioscoreaceae). Their structures were established mainly on the basis of 600 MHz 2D-NMR spectral data. 4 exhibited antifungal activity against the human pathogenic yeasts Candida albicans, C. glabrata and C. tropicalis (MICs of 20.8, 6.25, 25 microg/ml, respectively), whereas saponins 1-3 were inactive.

Addiction pharmacotherapy aims to prevent drug abstinence symptoms, reduce drug craving and relapse, and normalize physiologic functions disrupted by chronic use of the drug. During the last 50 years, there has been an enormous revolution in pharmacotherapy for drug addiction. From abstinence as practically the only treatment option available, there are now multiple drugs on the market that have proved their efficacy in treating opiate and alcohol disorders. The present review will focus on the pharmacological treatments of the drugs whose consumption most affects individuals and society: alcohol and opiates.
