Tutkielman tarkoituksena on selvittää, miten kahteen erilliseen lastensuojeluorganisaatioon sijoittuvat alkuarviointitiimit käsittelevät vastaanottamiaan lastensuojeluilmoituksia tiimikokouksissaan. Tavoitteena on tarkastella sitä, miten alkuarviointitiimien työntekijät luovat merkityksiä tiimikokoustilanteessa kohtaamilleen asioille ja sitä kautta muodostavat tarvittavia ratkaisuja. Tutkimusaihetta jäsennetään Karl E. Weick’n kehittämän sensemaking- eli merkityksellistämisteorian avulla, mikä asettuu myös tutkielman teoreettiseksi viitekehykseksi.
