Julien : les années parisiennes
2009
This article intends to scrutinize in what ways Julian’s stay in Gaul as a Caesar were decisive in Julian’s political and military education, and whether a specific ruling style and manner may be detected in the Parisian years of Julian’s government. Relying on a critical analysis of the documentation (Julian himself, Mamertinus, Ammianus, Libanios), the author examines the military and civilian aspects of Julian’s training as an apparently inexperienced ruler but quick learner. She carries out a prosopographical study of the Caesar’s circle and the administrative staff which was then on duty, combining friendly and hostile persons. Gaul offered him a training ground and he became even the …

Career Paths in Institutional Business Elites: Finnish Family Firms from 1762–2010
2015
This article analyzes the career paths of family business executives in institutional business elites in Finland using an empirical database based on a Bourdieusian prosopographical approach. The results indicate that career paths became more complex but shortened in length toward the beginning of the twenty-first century. The early career paths of family executives changed from positions as assistants and salesmen in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to governance, chief executive officer (CEO), and management positions in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Compared with the founder generation, next-generation family members benefited from more rapid institutional business eli…
Los canónigos de la catedral de Valencia (1375-1520). Aproximación a su prosopografía
2005
The business elite in Finland: a prosopographical study of family firm executives 1762–2010
2015
This study presents a prosopographical analysis of the Finnish business elite. The longitudinal panel dataset includes 456 members of family firms from 1762–2010 who have received the honorary title of counsellor in Finland. Counsellor biographies have been written by an economic history association network of 130 historians. Most family firms are no longer elite after the third generation of the family business or the second counsellor generation; therefore, the same core families rarely remain part of the economic elite for more than 100 years.
2014
A confrontation between epigraphic and literary sources is necessary to reconstruct the proconsular list of Asia for the mid reign of Marcus Aurelius (168-173 AD): in those years the province Asia was directly involved in Marcus' wars against barbarian raiders, especially the bellum Germanicum et Sarmaticum on the Danube (169-175) and the raids of Costobocs in the Balkans and Bastarnae in Anatolia (170-171). Therefore the imperial government ordered supplementary recruitments and new taxes. At the same time, the New Prophecy of Montanus, an apocalyptic Christian movement, broke out in Phrygia and Lydia (171-172) and the bishop of Laodikeia on the Lykos, Sagaris, was sentenced to death. Thes…
