Durability of Dolutegravir-Based Regimens: A 5-Year Prospective Observational Study

2021

This study evaluates the frequency and causes of dolutegravir (DTG) discontinuation along 5 years of follow-up, in both antiretroviral treatment (ART)-naive and experienced people living with HIV (PLWH). This is a prospective multi-center cohort study enrolling PLWH on DTG from July 2014 until November 2020. DTG-durability was investigated using the Kaplan-Meier survival curve. The Cox proportional-hazards model was used for estimating the hazard ratio (HR) of DTG discontinuation for any cause, and for adverse events (AEs). Nine hundred sixty-three PLWH were included, 25.3% were women and 28.0% were ART-naive. Discontinuations for any causes were 10.1 [95% confidence interval (95% CI) 8.9-1…

The effects of technology-utilising rehabilitation on rehabilitees' physical activity: a prospective cohort study

2021

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of technology-utilising rehabilitation on different intensities of physical activity (PA) and determine the explanatory factors of PA change. This was a prospective cohort study. Cardiac, musculoskeletal and vocational rehabilitees (N = 36) had 6 months of rehabilitation, which included guided training and counselling face-to-face as well as through distance technology. PA (total, light, moderate, vigorous) was measured by an activity tracker. Biopsychosocial questionnaires, waist circumference, PA measurements and m-coach activity were used to determine the factors that influence PA change. Technology-utilising rehabilitation improved li…

The Modified Heidelberg and the AI Appendicitis Score Are Superior to Current Scores in Predicting Appendicitis in Children: A Two-Center Cohort Study

2020

Background: Acute appendicitis represents the most frequent reason for abdominal surgery in children. Since diagnosis can be challenging various scoring systems have been published. The aim of this study was to evaluate and validate (and improve) different appendicitis scores in a very large cohort of children with abdominal pain. Methods: Retrospective analysis of all children that have been hospitalized due to suspected appendicitis at the Pediatric Surgery Department of the Altonaer Children's Hospital and University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf from 01/2018 until 11/2019. Four different appendicitis scores (Heidelberg Appendicitis Score, Alvarado Score, Pediatric Appendicitis Score …

AB1035 INTESTINAL MICROBIOTA COMPOSITION OF ADULT PATIENTS WITH FAMILIAL MEDITERRANEAN FEVER AND HEALTHY CONTROLS (THE RHEUMA-BIOTA STUDY)

2020

Background:Although Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) is a monogenic disease, microbiota composition may play role in the pathogenesis or phenotypic expression. Objectives:We aim to evaluate the intestinal microbiota composition in patients with FMF and to compare with healthy controls. Methods:In this prospective cohort study, a group of 10 adult patients with FMF and 10 age-appropriate healthy controls, for which there was strict inclusion/exclusion, were enrolled. Fecal samples were stored at -80°C until DNA extraction. A region of the 16S rRNA gene (V3-V4) was selected and sequencing was performed on the Illumina MiSeq platform at the Sequencing and Bioinformatics Service of FISABIO foun…

Neuropsychological underpinnings of the dynamics of bipolar disorder

2015

Although we have gained enormous insights into neurobiological and psychological underpinnings of bipolar disorder (BD) symptoms, our knowledge concerning pathogenic mechanisms initiating recurrent affective episodes is still fragmentary. Previous research has highlighted the role of significant life events and social rhythm in recurrent episodes of mania and depression. However, most studies share the drawback of retrospective self-report data, which are prone to recall biases and limited introspective abilities. Therefore, more objective data, such as neuropsychological and neurobiological measures are needed to further unravel the pathogenic mechanisms of the dynamics of bipolar disorder…

A prospective observational study on oral administration of Ellagic Acid and Annona Muricata in patients affected by non-muscle invasive bladder canc…

2021

Introduction: BCG and MMC shortage and Covid-19 pandemic, more recently, limit accessibility to maintenance regimen in intravesical prophylaxis against recurrence of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). Ellagic acid (EA) and Annona muricata (AM) exert antitumor activity against different human tumours. An observational prospective study on the prophylactic effect of oral administration of EA+AM in patients avoiding maintenance regimen is presented. Materials and methods: Patients affected by NMIBC and not undergoing maintenance after a 6-week course of intravesical prophylaxis with MMC or BCG were entered. Tis and very high-risk tumours were excluded. After informed consent, the pati…

Neoadjuvant treatment for locally advanced unresectable and borderline resectable pancreatic cancer: oncological outcomes at a single academic centre.

2020

INTRODUCTION: Pancreatic cancer (PC), even in the absence of metastatic disease, has a dismal prognosis. One-third of them are borderline resectable (BRPC) or locally advanced unresectable PC (LAUPC) at diagnosis. There are limited prospective data supporting the best approach on these tumours. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (ChT) is being increasingly used in this setting. METHODS: This is a retrospective series of consecutive patients staged as BRPC or LAUPC after discussion in the multidisciplinary board (MDB) at an academic centre. All received neoadjuvant ChT, followed by chemoradiation (ChRT) in some cases, and those achieving enough downstaging had a curative-intent surgery. Descriptive da…

Predicting Coaches' Adherence/Dropout: A Prospective Study

2015

The objective of this study was to examine motivational variables based on self-determination theory (SDT) and positive psychology as predictors of coaches' adherence and dropout. A prospective study was performed using a sample of 286 coaches who were tracked over a two-year period. Initially coaches' motivation and psychological need satisfaction were measured; two years later they were contacted and asked if they were still coaching in their original sport. Those who did not were considered as drop-outs for the current study. Logistic binary regression analyses were performed to analyse predictors of persistence and dropout. Need Satisfaction Index (NSI), perceived competence and percei…

Periodontal Behavior and Patient Satisfaction of Anterior Teeth Restored with Single Zirconia Crowns Using a Biologically Oriented Preparation Techni…

2021

bjectives. The aim of this study was to analyze the behavior of the periodontal tissues around teeth in the anterior region when restored with zirconia single crowns, using a biologically oriented preparation technique (BOPT), over a 6-year follow-up. Methods. The study investigated tooth-supported single crowns in the anterior region that were fabricated with a zirconia core and feldspathic ceramic covering, in 34 patients. Follow-up analysis took place annually for 6 years, assessing periodontal responses by evaluating the following variables: plaque index (PI)
