A nation-wide project of mapping deep pits dating to Pre- and Protohistory in continental France was launched by INRAP in 2015. Interpreting the Beaker phenomenon in Mediterranean France: an Iron Age analogy

In the Iron Age, the influence began with an exploratory phase, and then went on to create new settlements and colonise new areas away from the coast. The Beaker analogy is striking, with phases of exploration and implantation and acculturation, but adjusted to include a final phase where Beaker practice was more independent. The study of the ceramics from the site of the Batterie Basse in the region of Manche, shows again that the presence of bioclasts in the clays of protohistoric ceramics is a very common phenomenon in Normandy unlike in Brittany, where in the current state of knowledge only one individual from the Iron Age has been described. These bioclasts, mostly fragments of bivalves, are non-plastic elements naturally present in the clays, either in the form of fossils, either in the form of contemporary shells, or are incorporated by the craftsmans after being pounded to modify the technical characteristics of the clays. The aim of the Madonie research project is to analyse mobility strategies and the use of a mountainous territory by relating geomorphologic features, raw material sources and landscape to the prehistoric settlement. International audience; The Gué-de-Velluire sword (Vendée, France) is part of the Rochebrune collection collected during the 19 th and the 20 th centuries and now preserved in the Dobrée Museum in Nantes (Loire-Atlantique, France). The unusual shape of its hilt, its uncorroded rivets and the rather uncommon combination of a bronze grip with an iron blade made this sword an exceptional object. It has been depicted in a large number of papers since the 20 th century, but the question of its authenticity has hardly ever been tackled.
