Block-Based Models and Theorem Proving in Model-Based Development
2021
This paper presents a methodology to integrate computer-assisted theorem proving into a standard workflow for model-based development that uses a block-based language as a modeling and simulation tool. The theorem prover provides confidence in the results of the analysis as it guides the developers towards a correct formalization of the system under development.
Cryopreservation of MHC Multimers: Recommendations for Quality Assurance in Detection of Antigen Specific T Cells
2015
Fluorescence-labeled peptide-MHC class I multimers serve as ideal tools for the detection of antigen-specific T cells by flow cytometry, enabling functional and phenotypical characterization of specific T cells at the single cell level. While this technique offers a number of unique advantages, MHC multimer reagents can be difficult to handle in terms of stability and quality assurance. The stability of a given fluorescence-labeled MHC multimer complex depends on both the stability of the peptide-MHC complex itself and the stability of the fluorochrome. Consequently, stability is difficult to predict and long-term storage is generally not recommended. We investigated here the possibility of…
Modeling soil organic carbon stock after 10 years of cover crops in Mediterranean vineyards: improving ANN prediction by digital terrain analysis.
2018
Estimate changes in soil organic carbon (SOC) stock after Agro Environment Measures adoption are strategically for national and regional scale. Uncertainty in estimates also represents a very important parameter in terms of evaluation of the exact costs and agro environment payments to farmers. In this study we modeled the variation of SOC stock after 10-year cover crop adoption in a vine growing area of South-Eastern Sicily. A paired-site approach was chosen to study the difference in SOC stocks. A total 100 paired sites (i.e. two adjacent plots) were chosen and three soil samples (Ap soil horizons, circa 0-30 cm depth) were collected in each plot to obtain a mean value of organic carbon c…
Smart Data Blending Framework to Enhance Precipitation Estimation through Interconnected Atmospheric, Satellite, and Surface Variables
2023
Accurate precipitation estimation remains a challenge, though it is fundamental for most hydrological analyses. In this regard, this study aims to achieve two objectives. Firstly, we evaluate the performance of two precipitation products from the Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM-IMERG) for Sicily, Italy, from 2016 to 2020 by a set of categorical indicators and statistical indices. Analyses indicate the favorable performance of daily estimates, while half-hourly estimates exhibited poorer performance, revealing larger discrepancies between satellite and ground-based measurements at sub-hourly timescales. Secondly, we propose four multi-source me…
Reasoning and proving in Algebra. Examples from 8th grade school mathematics textbooks in Italy
2022
Some research studies concerning the didactics of Algebra discuss how learning to solve problems using symbolic algebraic language can be hard for students (Bohlmann et al., 2014; Palm, 2009). Students, in fact, have often difficulty to learn the ways in which the sym- bols should be manipulated to argue or to prove an assertion in order to reach a problem solu- tions. Although many studies conducted by mathematics educators discussed important contri- butions to this subject (e.g. Arzarello, Robutti & Bazzini, 2005; Boero, 2001; Carraher, Schliemann, Brizuela & Earnest, 2006; Lins & Kaput, 2004; Ursini & Trigueros, 2001), not many analysis were conducted on the role of the …
A phenomenological study about the effect of Covid-19 pandemic on teachers' use of teaching resources about reasoning & proving in mathematics
2022
If we study the history of societies, we can find several pandemic events such as smallpox, cholera, plague, and SARS [1, 2]. Each one of these pandemics events af fected human life in many aspects from health to the economic sphere [3], education is one of these aspects. The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic (Covid-19) has had a massive impact on Education: many students of different countries have been affected by school and university closures due to the Covid-19. Italy was the first Western coun try to suffer a coronavirus emergency

Innowacyjne podejście do kształcenia przyszłych nauczycieli
2015
W artykule ukazano wyniki praktycznej realizacji opracowanego systemu w p…
Tools of Improving the Quality of Information on Websites
2022
Purpose: Identification of methods and tools of improving the quality of information on websites. The investigated instruments, techniques and mechanisms are described with regard to solving problems of the information quality from the user’s perspective. Design/methodology/approach: Literature studies along with analysis of tools of improving the quality of information on websites. The analysis of tools for improving the quality of information was conducted within four areas: information integration, information validation, providing context of information, as well as adjusting information to be used. The presented examples concern, among others, information websites, government sites, onl…
The Question of Creativity in the Finnish Elementary School Curriculum
2017
This article is intended to examine the role of creative education in the design of the national curriculum and the division of lesson hours during the period 2010-2014. During this process, pupils, private citizens and experts from different fields were given the opportunity to submit their contributions to the exercise. The article intends to examine whether the curriculum development exercise fulfilled the conditions for a wide democratic consultation process. Three professional groups, elementary school teachers, artists (writers, visual arts teachers, musicians) and academic engineers (n= 1163) were the main focus of this research project. Creativity related claims, which were posted o…
