Islamic Shores Along the Black Atlantic
2016
Within the conceptual discussions of ‘Muslim diaspora’, the intersection between cultural blackness and Islam has received little attention. Yet its investigation is necessary to understand the increasing conversion to Islam among people who associate themselves with cultural blackness. In this context, Islam seems to offer new means for resistance and liberation, and contributes to transnational countercultures directed against racism and socio-economic marginalisation in post-colonial societies. Using Gilroy’s ideas of ‘the Black Atlantic’ and ‘diaspora’, we aim to develop an analytical framework to understand processes of black Muslim identity formation. The empirical foundation is provi…
Claude Lefort as interpreter of Machiavellian social conflict
2020
Claude Lefort, French philosopher and activist, exponent of the anti-totalitarian moment in France, has developed an original theoretical proposal on democracy and totalitarianism. When he distanced himself from the creed of the proletarian revolution as an instrument of understanding of human action, he focused on the understanding of the political as a space in which the social emerges, in which it takes shape. The idea that society acquired a unity through the revolutionary project was overturned by the knowledge that the social cannot be contained; it cannot be the object of appropriation and unification through action or knowledge without threatening freedom and the existence of societ…

Translating Polish Fantasy – translational challenges and problems concerning culture‑rooted elements
2015
Tłumacząc polską fantasy – wyzwania i problemy tłumaczeniowe związane z elementami kulturowymi
Visualising political thinking on the screen : a dialogue between von Trotta’s Hannah Arendt and its protagonist
2016
This article analyses Margarethe von Trotta’s film Hannah Arendt: The Woman Who Saw Banality in Evil through its protagonist’s own writings on visual culture, visibility and invisibility in the context of political thinking. We start by clarifying Arendt’s understanding of political theory as an activity aiming to provoke thinking. We then discuss systematically the visual language of the film and offer a typology of its representations of political thinking, subdivided into a part on internalisation and one on externalisation (dialogue). We emphasise von Trotta’s reliance on a negative approach, i.e. the representation of thinking through the absence of any other activity while thinking, c…
The critic’s vice:Theory, criticism and polemics according to Alberto Cardín
2020
Hizballāh and Lebanese Nationalism: The muqāwamah Proposal, Limits and Perimeters
2018
Abstract In this paper, an attempt was made to understand whether the ideological proposal of the muqāwamah (Islamic resistance), advanced by Ḥizballāh from 1982 until the present day, can be considered as a national value that is valid not only for the Shia community, but also for other communities, such as Christian or Sunni. DRÁCULA AND THE LITERARY CRITERIA SPECIALIZED IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE (1972-2017)
2018
The present article strives to analyse, in a necessarily synthetic way, the main interpretive currents that have led to the study of Dracula, the novel published by Bram Stoker in 1897. The objective is to better capture what academic interests this novel has generated and how it has gone from being considered a mediocre product to becoming a classic of contemporary literature. Beginning in the seventies, I will expose the evolution of the critique and its most important contributions, focusing on those works that have represented a turning point in the studies on the novel. I hope to complete a broad enough overview of the evolution and state of research around Dracula.
