A discrete model characterizing heat and fluid flow in connection with thermal fluxes in a building is described and tested against experiment in this contribution. The model, based on a cellular automaton approach, relies on a set of a few quite simple rules and parameters in order to simulate the dynamic evolution of temperatures and energy flows in any water or brine based thermal energy distribution network in a building or system. Abstract The city of Loviisa in Finland is planning a new sustainable residential area with a total of 240,000 m2 of residential houses and apartment buildings with services. The city wants to promote sustainable energy solutions in the area, considering various renewable energy forms for heating. Because cholesterol is the precursor in bile acid (BA) synthesis, we investigated whether t10,c12-CLA alters BA metabolism. In Expt. 1, female C57Bl/6J mice were fed a standard diet for 28 d supplemented with a CLA mixture (1 g/100 g) or not (controls). In Expt. 2, the feeding period was reduced to 4, 6, and 10 d. Proximate and Sensory Evaluation of Fermented Seasonings from Soybean and Fluted Pumpkin Seeds

Specialty condiment (ogiri) was produced from seeds of soybean (Glycine max) and fluted pumpkin (Telfairia occidentalis) by spontaneous moist solid substrate fermentation of their pre-processed mash. The two samples coded FSBM and FFPM respectively were evaluated for nutritional quality. Effects of fermentation on proximate values of the seeds were also analyzed. The two samples were further subjected to sensory analysis using commercial brand made from castor bean (Ricinus communis) seeds coded FCBM as a control. Cross-sublattice Spin Pumping and Magnon Level Attraction in van der Waals Antiferromagnets

We theoretically study spin pumping from a layered van der Waals antiferromagnet in its canted ground state into an adjacent normal metal. We find that the resulting dc spin pumping current bears contributions along all spin directions. Our analysis allows for detecting intra- and cross-sublattice spin-mixing conductances via measuring the two in-plane spin current components. We further show that sublattice symmetry-breaking Gilbert damping can be realized via interface engineering and induces a dissipative coupling between the optical and acoustic magnon modes. We analyze the statistics of charge and energy currents and spin torque in a metallic nanomagnet coupled to a large magnetic metal via a tunnel contact. We derive a Keldysh action for the tunnel barrier, describing the stochastic currents in the presence of a magnetization precessing with the rate $\Omega$. In contrast to some earlier approaches, we include the geometric phases that affect the counting statistics. The effect of electron–phonon coupling in materials can be interpreted as a dressing of the electronic structure by the lattice vibration, leading to vibrational replicas and hybridization of electronic states. In solids, a resonantly excited coherent phonon leads to a periodic oscillation of the atomic lattice in a crystal structure bringing the material into a nonequilibrium electronic configuration. Periodically oscillating quantum systems can be understood in terms of Floquet theory, which has a long tradition in the study of semiclassical light-matter interaction. Monitoring Electron-Photon Dressing in WSe 2

Optical pumping of solids creates a non-equilibrium electronic structure where electrons and photons combine to form quasiparticles of dressed electronic states. The resulting shift of electronic levels is known as the optical Stark effect, visible as a red shift in the optical spectrum. Here we show that in a pump-probe setup we can uniquely define a non-equilibrium quasiparticle bandstructure that can be directly measurable with photoelectron spectroscopy. Enhancing single-parameter quantum charge pumping in carbon-based devices

We present a theoretical study of quantum charge pumping with a single ac gate applied to graphene nanoribbons and carbon nanotubes operating with low resistance contacts. By combining Floquet theory with Green's function formalism, we show that the pumped current can be tuned and enhanced by up to two orders of magnitude by an appropriate choice of device length, gate voltage intensity and driving frequency and amplitude. These results offer a promising alternative for enhancing the pumped currents in these carbon-based devices.
