Itsepuolustusharjoittelun mahdollisuudet koulukiusaamisen vähentämisessä
2012
Silvonen, M. 2012. Itsepuolustusharjoittelun mahdollisuudet koulukiusaamisen vähen-tämisessä. Jyväskylän yliopisto. Liikuntapedagogiikan pro gradu- tutkielma. 91 s. Tutkielman tavoitteena oli selvittää itsepuolustusharjoittelun mahdollisuuksia koulu-kiusaamisen vähentämisessä. Tarkoituksena oli tutkia, miten itsepuolustuskurssi toteutui kolmannen luokan oppilailla, miten koulukiusaamiseen puuttuvat harjoitukset toimivat itsepuolustuskurssilla ja miten itsepuolustuskurssi ilmeni oppilaiden välisissä suhteissa. Lisäksi tutkittiin, mitä keinoja oppilaat voivat oppia koulukiusaamisen tunnistamiseen ja välttämiseen sekä vaikuttiko itsepuolustuskurssi koulukiusaamista vähentävästi. Tutkielman tau…

Cognitive and Academic Outcomes of Fundamental Motor Skill and Physical Activity Interventions Designed for Children with Special Educational Needs: …
2022
This systematic review aimed to investigate the methodological quality and the effects of fundamental motor skills and physical activity interventions on cognitive and academic skills in 3- to 7-year-old children with special educational needs. The review was reported in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA 2020) statement. A literature search was carried out in April 2020 (updated in January 2022) using seven electronic databases, including ERIC, Scopus, Web of Science, PsycINFO, CINAHL, PubMed, and SPORTDiscus. The methodological quality of the studies was assessed with Effective Public Health Practice Project (EPHPP) Quality Asses…
Ecology, environmental requirements and conservation of corticioid fungi occupying small diameter dead wood
2016
The increasing human impact upon the biosphere of earth is causing profound changes across all spatial scales. The ability to cope with human-induced disturbance varies among organisms; specialist species are more negatively affected than generalist species. Forests are among the most heavily affected ecosystems; especially the dead wood associated organisms are in peril. The earlier research has strongly focused on large diameter dead wood and associated species. The aim of this thesis was to investigate small diameter dead wood and collect systematic information about species richness and abundance as well as habitat and substrate preferences of associated corticioid fungi. Fungal data wa…
Cortical networks show characteristic recruitment patterns after somatosensory stimulation by pneumatically evoked repetitive hand movements in newbo…
2022
Abstract Controlled assessment of functional cortical networks is an unmet need in the clinical research of noncooperative subjects, such as infants. We developed an automated, pneumatic stimulation method to actuate naturalistic movements of an infant’s hand, as well as an analysis pipeline for assessing the elicited electroencephalography (EEG) responses and related cortical networks. Twenty newborn infants with perinatal asphyxia were recruited, including 7 with mild-to-moderate hypoxic–ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). Statistically significant corticokinematic coherence (CKC) was observed between repetitive hand movements and EEG in all infants, peaking near the contralateral sensorimotor…
Contemporary spatial and environmental factors determine vascular plant species richness on highly fragmented meadows in Central Finland
2018
Context Habitat loss is a major threat to biodiversity. It can create temporal lags in decline of species in relation to destruction of habitat coverage. Plant species specialized in semi-natural grasslands, especially meadows, often express such extinction debt. Objectives We studied habitat loss and fragmentation of meadows and examined whether the changes in meadow coverage had caused an extinction debt on vascular plants. We also studied whether historical or present landscape patterns or contemporary environmental factors were more important determinants of species occurrence. Methods We surveyed the plant species assemblages of 12 grazed and 12 mown meadows in Central Finland and dete…
Kantojen ja hakkuutähteiden vaikutukset kaarnakuoriaisten parveiluun päätehakkuualoilla
2018
Kantojen korjuu heikentää esimerkiksi lahopuusta riippuvaisten kaarnakuoriaisten (Scolytinae) elinmahdollisuuksia. Kaarnakuoriaisilla on tärkeä rooli metsien luontaisessa häiriödynamiikassa ja ne tuottavat metsiin monille eliölajeille elintärkeää lahopuuta tappamalla heikentyneitä puita. Kaarnakuoriaisten kyky tappaa hyväkuntoisiakin puita massaesiintymien aikaan aiheuttaa kuitenkin huolta metsänomistajien keskuudessa. Tämän tu…
Browsing hinders the regeneration of broadleaved trees in uneven-aged forest management in southern Finland
2020
Uneven-aged forest management has attained increasing popularity. It may benefit biodiversity, buffer against pests and abiotic damages, decrease runoff from clearcuts and improve recreational values. We studied how gap cuttings and single-tree selection cuttings influence browsing damage in spruce-dominated forests in south-central Finland. Overall, browsing damage was especially frequent in aspen and rowan, but also in birch. The larger the basal area left in harvesting, the lower the browsing pressure on birch and rowan; neither the harvesting method nor the seedling density had an independent effect on browsing damage. Although larger tree retention levels may reduce browsing damage, th…
Estimation of forest stand characteristics using individual tree detection, stochastic geometry and a sequential spatial point process model
2022
Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) results in point-wise measurements of canopy height, which can further be used for Individual Tree Detection (ITD). However, ITD cannot find all trees because small trees can hide below larger tree crowns. Here we discuss methods where the plot totals and means of tree-level characteristics are estimated in such context. The starting point is a previously presented Horvitz–Thompson-like (HT-like) estimator, where the detectability is based on the larger tree crowns and a tuning parameter that models the detection condition. We propose a new method which is based on modeling the spatial pattern of hidden tree locations using a sequential spatial point process mo…
