A new synthesis of soluble poly(1,4-phenylenevinylene)s and poly(2,5-pyrimidinylenevinylene)s

1991

Abstract Alkoxy-substituted 4-methylbenzylideneanilines 2a-f and their pyrimidine analogues 2g,h show an efficient selfcondensation in the alkaline medium KOC(CH 3 ) 3 /DMF. The totally stereoselective reaction yields 3a-h which are transformed by acidic work-up to 4a-h . A narrow distribution of the molecular weight can be achieved.

PURINE AND PYRIMIDINE NUCLEOTIDES IN THE BRAIN OF NORMAL AND CONVULSANT RATS

1969

— Purine and pyrimidine nucleotides were measured in the brain of normal and electroshocked rats after chromatographic separation on ion-exchange resin of mono-, di- and tri-phosphorylated derivatives. CMP, IMP and NAD did not show any significant quantitative change. Adenine nucleotides showed an abrupt change followed by a rapid return to the control value. GTP was the only purine nucleotide exhibiting a relatively slow return to its starting concentration. The greatest percentage increase after electroshock was observed in UMP, which returned to its control value only after 5 min; UDPCoenzymes (i.e. UDPA plus UDPG) showed a relatively small drop during the development of the seizure and …

Current results on the use of imatinib mesylate in patients with relapsed philadelphia chromosome positive leukemia after allogeneic or syngeneic hem…

2003

Here, we describe a patient diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia who relapsed after matched unrelated donor SCT. The patient was treated with imatinib mesylate and donor lymphocyte infusions, and achieved a complete molecular remission. Additionally, safety and efficacy of imatinib mesylate in a total of 134 patients from 8 centers who underwent allogeneic or syngeneic stem cell transplantation (SCT) and had a relapse of Philadelphia chromosome positive leukemia was reviewed. Data was compiled from abstracts accepted as oral or poster presentations at the ASH (American Society of Hematology) 2001 and EBMT (European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation) 2001 & 2002 meetings and …

Cyclobutane Pyrimidine Photodimerization of DNA/RNA Nucleobases in the Triplet State

2010

The photoinduced formation of cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers in the triplet excited state of the DNA/RNA pyrimidine nucleobases pairs has been studied at the CASPT2 level of theory. A stepwise mechanism through the triplet state of the homodimer is proposed for the pairs of nucleobases cytosine, thymine, and uracil involving a singlet−triplet crossing intermediary structure of biradical character representing the most favorable triplet state conformation of the nucleobases as found in the DNA environment. The efficiency of the mechanism will be modulated by two factors: the effectiveness of the triplet−triplet energy transfer process from a donor photosensitizer molecule, which relates to th…

Pyrazole[3,4-d]pyrimidine derivatives loaded into halloysite as potential CDK inhibitors

2021

Uncontrolled cell proliferation is a hallmark of cancer as a result of rapid and deregulated progression through the cell cycle. The inhibition of cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) activities is a promising therapeutic strategy to block cell cycle of tumor cells. In this work we reported a new example of nanocomposites based on halloysite nanotubes (HNTs)/pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine derivatives (Si306 and Si113) as anticancer agents and CDK inhibitors. HNTs/Si306 and HNTs/Si113 nanocomposites were synthesized and characterized. The release kinetics were also investigated. Antitumoral activity was evaluated on three cancer cell lines (HeLa, MDA-MB-231 and HCT116) and the effects on cell cycle ar…

PML as a potential predictive factor of oxaliplatin/fluoropyrimidine-based first line chemotherapy efficacy in colorectal cancer patients

2012

PML regulates a wide range of pathways involved in tumorigenesis, such as apoptosis, which is also one of the main mechanisms through which oxaliplatin and fluoropyrimidine exert their antineoplastic activity. The present study aims to investigate PML expression as a predictive factor of oxaliplatin/fluoropyrimidine therapy efficacy. Seventy-four metastatic colorectal cancer patients who received oxaliplatin/floropyrimidine-based first line therapy have been included in this retrospective study. PML expression was assessed by immunohistochemistry. PML down-regulation was detected in 39 (52.7%) patients (14 complete and 25 partial PML loss). RR was significantly lower (25.6%) in patients wit…

Communication: Electronic UV-Vis transient spectra of the ·OH reaction products of uracil, thymine, cytosine, and 5,6-dihydrouracil by using the comp…

2013

Addition of ∙OH radicals to pyrimidine nucleobases is a common reaction in DNA/RNA damage by reactive oxygen species. Among several experimental techniques, transient absorption spectroscopy has been during the last decades used to characterize such compounds. Discrepancies have however appeared in the assignment of the adduct or adducts responsible for the reported transient absorption UV-Vis spectra. In order to get an accurate assignment of the transient spectra and a unified description of the absorption properties of the ∙OH reaction products of pyrimidines, a systematic complete active space self-consistent field second-order perturbation (CASPT2//CASSCF) theory study has been carried…

High-dimensional malonate-based materials: Synthesis, crystal structures and magnetic properties of [M2(mal)2(L)(H2O)2]n·n(H2O) M = Zn(ii), Co(ii); H…

2003

Four novel coordination polymers [M2(mal)2(pym)(H2O)]n·nH2O, M = Zn (1), Co (2) and [M2(mal)2(pyz)(H2O)]n·nH2O, M = Zn (3), Co (4) (H2mal = malonic acid, pym = pyrimidine, pyz = pyrazine), have been synthesized. Compounds 1 and 2 are isomorphous, as are compounds 3 and 4. X-ray diffraction experiments reveal that 1–4 exhibit an interesting 3D-network, containing malonate and either pyrimidine (1 and 2) and pyrazine (3 and 4) as organic ligands. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate the occurrence of weak antiferromagnetic interactions between Co(II) ions in 2 and 4.

The prognosis for patients with chronic myeloid leukemia who have clonal cytogenetic abnormalities in philadelphia chromosome-negative cells.

2007

BACKGROUND. Clonal cytogenetic abnormalities (CCA) were detected in Philadelphia chromosome (Ph)-negative cells in some patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) who attained a cytogenetic response to imatinib mesylate. In some patients, CCA/Ph-negative status was associated with myelodysplasia or acute myeloid leukemia. The objective of the current study was to determine the prognostic impact of CCA/Ph-negative cells. METHODS. The authors compared the pretherapeutic risk factors (Kruskall-Wallis test), exposure to cytotoxic drugs (chi-square test), and overall and progression-free survival (Kaplan-Meyer and logistic regression analysis, respectively) of 515 patients with mostly chronic-…
