Deep inelastic scattering off quark-gluon plasma and its photon emissivity
2021
The photon emissivity of quark-gluon plasma probes the interactions in the medium and differs qualitatively between a weakly coupled and a strongly coupled plasma in the soft-photon regime. The photon emissivity is given by the product of kinematic factors and a spectral function associated with the two-point correlator of the electromagnetic current at lightlike kinematics. A certain Euclidean correlator at imaginary spatial momentum can be calculated in lattice QCD and is given by an integral over the relevant spectral function at lightlike kinematics. I present a first exploratory lattice calculation of this correlator. Secondly, I show how Euclidean correlators at imaginary spatial mome…
Multi-boson block factorization of fermions
2017
The numerical computations of many quantities of theoretical and phenomenological interest are plagued by statistical errors which increase exponentially with the distance of the sources in the relevant correlators. Notable examples are baryon masses and matrix elements, the hadronic vacuum polarization and the light-by-light scattering contributions to the muon g-2, and the form factors of semileptonic B decays. Reliable and precise determinations of these quantities are very difficult if not impractical with state-of-the-art standard Monte Carlo integration schemes. I will review a recent proposal for factorizing the fermion determinant in lattice QCD that leads to a local action in the g…
Measurement of Event Shape and Inclusive Distributions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 130 and 136 GeV
1997
Inclusive charged particle and event shape distributions are measured using 321 hadronic events collected with the DELPHI experiment at LEP at effective centre of mass energies of 130 to 136 GeV. These distributions are presented and compared to data at lower energies, in particular to the precise Z data. Fragmentation models describe the observed changes of the distributions well. The energy dependence of the means of the event shape variables can also be described using second order QCD plus power terms. A method independent of fragmentation model corrections is used to determine $\alpha_s$ from the energy dependence of the mean thrust and heavy jet mass. It is measured to be: % %\alpha_s…
Centrality and rapidity dependence of inclusive pion and prompt photon production in p+Pb collisions at the LHC with EPS09s nPDFs
2014
The centrality dependencies of the inclusive neutral pion and prompt photon nuclear modification factors for p+Pb collisions at the LHC are studied using a spatially dependent set of nuclear PDFs, EPS09s. The calculations are performed at mid- and forward rapidities searching for an observable which would optimally probe the spatial dependence of the nuclear PDFs. In addition, we discuss to which $x$ values of the nucleus the different observables are sensitive.

Parameters of two solutions of the QCD fit. The assumed functional form at $Q^2_0 = 1 ($GeV$/c)^2$ is $q(x) = \eta x^\alpha (1-x)^\beta (1 + \gamma x)/N$ where N is the normalisation. The parametrisation is used for the singlet and gluon helicity distribution and the two non-singlet distributions $\Delta q_3$ and $\Delta q_8$.
A new lattice action for studying topological charge
1996
We propose a new lattice action for non-abelian gauge theories, which will reduce short-range lattice artifacts in the computation of the topological susceptibility. The standard Wilson action is replaced by the Wilson action of a gauge covariant interpolation of the original fields to a finer lattice. If the latter is fine enough, the action of all configurations with non-zero topological charge will satisfy the continuum bound. As a simpler example we consider the $O(3)$ $\sigma$-model in two dimensions, where a numerical analysis of discretized continuum instantons indicates that a finer lattice with half the lattice spacing of the original is enough to satisfy the continuum bound.
Searches for B0 decays to combinations of charmless isoscalar mesons
2004
We search for B meson decays into two-body combinations of eta, eta', omega, and phi mesons from 89 million B B-bar pairs collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at SLAC. We find the branching fraction BF(B0 -> eta omega) = (4.0^{+1.3}_{-1.2} +- 0.4) x 10^-6 with a significance of 4.3 sigma. For all the other decay modes we set the following 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions, in units of 10^-6 : BF(B0 -> eta eta)<2.8, BF(B0 -> eta eta')<4.6, BF(B0 -> eta' eta')<10, BF(B0 -> eta'omega)<2.8, BF(B0 -> eta phi)<1.0, BF(B0 -> eta' phi)<4.5, BF(B0 -> phi phi)<1.5.
B-K-parameter from N-f=2 twisted mass lattice QCD
2011
We present an unquenched N-f = 2 lattice computation of the B-K parameter which controls K-0 - (K) over bar (0) oscillations. A partially quenched setup is employed with two maximally twisted dynamical (sea) light Wilson quarks, and valence quarks of both the maximally twisted and the Osterwalder-Seiler variety. Suitable combinations of these two kinds of valence quarks lead to a lattice definition of the B-K parameter which is both multiplicatively renormalizable and O(a) improved. Employing the nonperturbative RI-MOM scheme, in the continuum limit and at the physical value of the pion mass we get B-K(RGI) = 0.729 +/- 0.030, a number well in line with the existing quenched and unquenched d…
