On the 'expanded local mode' approach applied to the methane molecule: isotopic substitution CH2D2 <--- CH4

2011

International audience; On the basis of a compilation of the 'expanded local mode' model and the general isotopic substitution theory, sets of simple analytical relations between different spectroscopic parameters (harmonic frequencies, anharmonic coefficients, ro-vibrational coefficients, different kinds of Fermi- and Coriolis-type interaction parameters) of the CH2D2 molecule are derived. All of them are expressed as simple functions of a few initial spectroscopic parameters of the mother, CH4, molecule. Test calculations with the derived isotopic relations show that, in spite of a total absence of initial information about the CH2D2 species, the numerical results of the calculations have…

Impact of many-body correlations on the dynamics of an ion-controlled bosonic Josephson junction

2016

We investigate an atomic ensemble of interacting bosons trapped in a symmetric double well potential in contact with a single tightly trapped ion which has been recently proposed [R. Gerritsma et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 109, 080402 (2012)] as a source of entanglement between a Bose-Einstein condensate and an ion. Compared to the previous study, the present work aims at performing a detailed and accurate many-body analysis of such combined atomic quantum system by means of the ab-initio multi-configuration time-dependent Hartree method for bosons, which allows to take into account all correlations in the system. The analysis elucidates the importance of quantum correlations in the bosonic ense…

Molecular alignment echoes probe collision-induced rotational-speed changes

2020

International audience; We show that the decays with pressure of the rotational alignment echoes induced in N 2 O-He gas mixtures by two ultrashort laser pulses with various delays show detailed information about collision-induced changes of the rotational speed of the molecules. Measurements and classical calculations consistently demonstrate that collisions reduce the echo amplitude all the more efficiently when the echo appears late. We quantitatively explain this behavior by the filamentation of the classical rotational phase space induced by the first pulse and the narrowing of the filaments with time. The above mentioned variation of the echo decay then reflects the ability of collisi…

Production of photon states from Λ-atoms in a cavity

2019

We analyse the system of Λ-atoms in a cavity QED of semi-transparent mirror and driven by laser fields. We derive effective models and connect concepts (photonic flux, input-output operators, photonic state) characterizing the propagation of the resulting leaking photons. We propose an atom-cavity non-resonant scheme for single-and 2-photons generation. The pulse shapes of outgoing single photons are tailored using a specifically designed driving field envelope. For the production of 2-photon states, two trapped atoms are used with two driving pulses. Their pulse shapes are characterized and it is shown that the multiphoton outgoing photonic states cannot be Fock states, since the photons a…

Optimal Robust Quantum Control by Inverse Geometric Optimization

2020

International audience; We develop an inverse geometric optimization technique that allows the derivation of optimal and robust exact solutions of low-dimension quantum control problems driven by external fields: we determine in the dynamical variable space optimal trajectories constrained to robust solutions by Euler-Lagrange optimization; the control fields are then derived from the obtained robust geodesics and the inverted dynamical equations. We apply this method, referred to as robust inverse optimization (RIO), to design optimal control fields producing a complete or half population transfer and a NOT quantum gate robust with respect to the pulse inhomogeneities. The method is versat…

Effective Hamiltonians in Nonrelativistic Quantum Electrodynamics

2021

In this paper, we consider some second-order effective Hamiltonians describing the interaction of the quantum electromagnetic field with atoms or molecules in the nonrelativistic limit. Our procedure is valid only for off-energy-shell processes, specifically virtual processes such as those relevant for ground-state energy shifts and dispersion van der Waals and Casimir-Polder interactions, while on-energy-shell processes are excluded. These effective Hamiltonians allow for a considerable simplification of the calculation of radiative energy shifts, dispersion, and Casimir-Polder interactions, including in the presence of boundary conditions. They can also provide clear physical insights int…

Dynamics and extraction of quantum discord in a multipartite open system

2011

We consider a multipartite system consisting of two noninteracting qubits each embedded in a single-mode leaky cavity, in turn connected to an external bosonic reservoir. Initially, we take the two qubits in an entangled state while the cavities and the reservoirs have zero photons. We investigate, in this six-partite quantum system, the transfer of quantum discord from the qubits to the cavities and reservoirs. We show that this transfer occurs also when the cavities are not entangled. Moreover, we discuss how quantum discord can be extracted from the cavities and transferred to distant systems by traveling leaking photons, using the input-output theory.

Squeezing of Quantum Noise of Motion in a Micromechanical Resonator

2015

A pair of conjugate observables, such as the quadrature amplitudes of harmonic motion, have fundamental fluctuations which are bound by the Heisenberg uncertainty relation. However, in a squeezed quantum state, fluctuations of a quantity can be reduced below the standard quantum limit, at the cost of increased fluctuations of the conjugate variable. Here we prepare a nearly macroscopic moving body, realized as a micromechanical resonator, in a squeezed quantum state. We obtain squeezing of one quadrature amplitude $1.1 \pm 0.4$ dB below the standard quantum limit, thus achieving a long-standing goal of obtaining motional squeezing in a macroscopic object.
