ECG Analysis for Ventricular Fibrillation Detection Using a Boltzmann Network

2015

Arrhythmias consist on electrical alterations in the heart beat control. They can be identified by means of surface ECG leads. The main goal of this work is to provide a signal classification based on ECG signal waveform in the time-frequency domain especially targeted to Ventricular Fibrillation detection. The use of a classifier based on a Boltzmann network is proposed. However, a previous signal preprocessing is also required so that the Boltzmann network is fed with the appropriate data. In this case, an R-wave detector is used; after that, the Pseudo Wigner-Ville time-frequency distribution is obtained. This distribution is used to train and test the network, which handles it as an ima…

Glucose transporter 4 mRNA expression in subcutaneous adipose tissue of women with PCOS remains unchanged despite metformin withdrawal: is there a ce…

2021

Purpose: Metformin induces GLUT-4 mRNA expression in insulin target tissues in PCOS. It is unclear how long this impact is sustained after withdrawal of metformin. We aimed to compare the effect of metformin withdrawal on GLUT-4 mRNA expression in subcutaneous adipose tissue after prior short (ST, 1 year, N = 11) and long term (LT, at least 3 years, N = 13) treatment in obese PCOS women. Methods: At baseline and 6 months after withdrawal, biopsy of subcutaneous adipose tissue followed by quantitative PCR analysis was performed to determine GLUT-4 mRNA expression. Results: We found no time/effect differences in GLUT-4 mRNA expression in ST (2-dCt at baseline 0.42 (0.16–0.48) vs 2-dCt after 6…

The Morphology of Hormone Induced Structural Changes in the Female Breast

1970

Many morphological, physiological, and biochemical investigations have contributed to the classification of the endocrine regulatory mechanisms responsible for development and function of the mammary gland. These studies received their crucial impetus when the synthesis of the sex hormones had been achieved and from their experimental use. The history of the use of these drugs is thus also the history of the concept of control of the mammary gland by hormones. The individual factors and combinations of factors responsible for the normal growth of the glandular structure of the mammary gland, for its secretory function, and for its pathomorphology have been elucidated by systematic studies. …

Quantitative assessment of regularity and synchronization of intracardiac recordings during human atrial fibrillation

2003

This study proposes the morphology-based evaluation of the regularity (R) and the synchronization (S) of intra-atrial electrograms acquired during atrial fibrillation (AF). R is defined as the degree of repetitiveness over time of the shapes of the activation waves detected in single atrial recordings. S accounts for the simultaneous presence of morphologically similar activation waves in two atrial electrograms, and for the dispersion of the propagation delays between the two sites. Both R and S resulted unitary for normal sinus rhythm and decreased significantly moving from atrial flutter (R=0.93, S=0.88) to AF of increasing complexity class (type I AF: R=0.75, S=0.66; type II AF: R=0.32,…

Fat mass accumulation compromises bone adaptation to load in finnish women: A cross-sectional study spanning three generations

2010

Body weight and lean mass correlate with bone mass, but the relationship between fat mass and bone remains elusive. The study population consisted of 396 girls and 138 premenopausal mothers and 114 postmenopausal grandmothers of these girls. Body composition and tibial length were assessed using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), and bone traits were determined at the tibia using peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT) in the girls at the ages of 11.2 ± 0.8, 13.2 ± 0.9, and 18.3 ± 1.0 years and in the mothers (44.7 ± 4.1 years) and grandmothers (70.7 ± 6.3 years). The values of relative bone strength index (RBSI), an index reflecting the ratio of bone strength to the load ap…

Correlates and importance of neglect-like symptoms in complex regional pain syndrome

2018

Neglect-like symptoms (NLS) are frequently observed in complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). The clinical meaning of NLS, however, is largely unknown. Therefore, this study sets out to assess the importance of NLS for patient outcome and to explore their clinical correlates. We assessed NLS in a group of 53 patients with CRPS and compared the results to 28 healthy volunteers. To define the origin of the NLS reports, we tested the subjective visual midline, performed a limb-laterality recognition test, and quantitative sensory testing. In addition, psychological and pain assessment scales were completed. Tests were analyzed with univariate and multivariate approaches. After 6 months, patien…

Salesperson adoption and usage of mobile sales configuration tools

2018

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine salespersons’ adoption and usage of mobile sales configuration tools (MSCT) and to identify areas for further development in this realm. Another objective is to offer a conceptualization of MSCT adoption.Design/methodology/approachFor this purpose, a qualitative case study approach was selected as the research method to better understand acceptance of a mobile configuration tool used by business-to-business (B2B) salespersons. Primary data were collected through semi-structured interviews, which included a series of open-ended questions to gain more detailed and contextual data.FindingsThe results obtained from the interviews indicated several …

Green value and spatial approaches of energy demand management.

2020

Adapter stabilizujący do długich preparatów mikroskopowych – budowa i zastosowanie w cyfrowym pozyskiwaniu obrazu

2018

W artykule proponujemy udoskonaloną wersję adaptera do długich preparatów mikroskopowych wychodzącą naprzeciw potrzebom użytkowników wcześniejszych wersji. Konstrukcje te …
