Test of chiral perturbation theory in η decays

The decay of the η-meson into three pions plays an important role as a test of low-energy QCD calculations in the framework of chiral perturbation theory. Previous experiments show results that are inconclusive or even contradictory. The Crystal Barrel experiment at LEAR has determined the braching ratiosΓ(η→3π0)/Γ(η→π+π−π0)=1.47±0.09±0.15 andΓ(η→γγ)/Γ(η→π+π−π0)=1.88±0.10±0.17 using its unique features to detect charged particles as well as neutral particles. The value for the first ratio agrees nicely with the theoretical predictions and solves previous experimental uncertainties. Pion electroproduction, partially conserved axial-vector current, chiral Ward identities, and the axial form factor revisited

We reinvestigate Adler's partially conserved axial-vector current relation in the presence of an external electromagnetic field within the framework of QCD coupled to external fields. We discuss pion electroproduction within a tree-level approximation to chiral perturbation theory and explicitly verify a chiral Ward identity referred to as the Adler-Gilman relation. We critically examine soft-momentum techniques and point out how inadmissable approximations may lead to results incompatible with chiral symmetry. As a result we confirm that threshold pion electroproduction is indeed a tool to obtain information on the axial form factor of the nucleon.
Lattice quantum hadrodynamics on a CRAY Y-MP

Quantum corrections to the mean-field equation of state for nuclear matter are estimated in a lattice simulation of quantum hadrodynamics on a CRAY Y-MP. In contrast with lattice quantum chromodynamics, where coordinate space methods are the standard, the calculations are carried out in momentum space and on nonhypercubic (irregular) lattices. The quantum corrections to the known, mean-field equation of state were found to be considerable. Abstract Our dispersive sum rule calculation of the electroweak penguin contribution to ϵ′ ϵ is reviewed. A more recent analysis based on the finite-energy sum rule approach is described. Finally, a new determination of the electroweak penguin contribution to ϵ′ ϵ is presented.
ε′/ε in the standard model

We overview the detailed analysis of e ' /e within the Standard Model, pre- sented in ref. (1). When all sources of large logarithms are considered, both at short and long distances, it is possible to perform a reliable Standard Model estimate of e ' /e. The strong S-wave rescattering of the final pions has an important impact on this observ- able (1, 2). The Standard Model prediction is found to be (1) Re(e ' /e) = (1.7 ±0.9) � 10 −3 , in good agreement with the most recent experimental measurements. A better estimate of the strange quark mass would reduce the uncertainty to about 30%.
Production of inclusive ϒ(1S) and ϒ(2S) in p–Pb collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV

We report on the production of inclusive Y{hooktop}(1S) and Y{hooktop}(2S) in p-Pb collisions at √sNN=5.02 TeV at the LHC. The measurement is performed with the ALICE detector at backward (-4.46<ycms<-2.96) and forward (2.03<ycms<3.53) rapidity down to zero transverse momentum. The production cross sections of the Y{hooktop}(1S) and Y{hooktop}(2S) are presented, as well as the nuclear modification factor and the ratio of the forward to backward yields of Y{hooktop}(1S). A suppression of the inclusive Y{hooktop}(1S) yield in p-Pb collisions with respect to the yield from pp collisions scaled by the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions is observed at forward rapidity but not at backwar…
Study of thee+e−→K+K−reaction in the energy range from 2.6 to 8.0 GeV

The e^+e^− → K^+K^− cross section and charged-kaon electromagnetic form factor are measured in the e^+e^− center-of-mass energy range (E) from 2.6 to 8.0 GeV using the initial-state radiation technique with an undetected photon. The study is performed using 469 fb^(−1) of data collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II2 e^+e^− collider at center-of-mass energies near 10.6 GeV. The form factor is found to decrease with energy faster than 1/E^2 and approaches the asymptotic QCD prediction. Production of the K^+K^− final state through the J/ψ and ψ(2S) intermediate states is observed. Elliptic flow in nuclear collisions at ultrarelativistic energies available at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

We use perfect-fluid hydrodynamical model to predict the elliptic flow coefficients in $\mathrm{Pb}+\mathrm{Pb}$ collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The initial state for the hydrodynamical calculation for central $A+A$ collisions is obtained from the perturbative QCD $+$ saturation model. The centrality dependence of the initial state is modeled by the optical Glauber model. We show that the baseline results obtained from the framework are in good agreement with the data from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and show predictions for the ${p}_{T}$ spectra and elliptic flow of pions in $\mathrm{Pb}+\mathrm{Pb}$ collisions at the LHC. Wide Angle Compton Scattering within the SCET factorization Framework

Existing data for the electromagnetic proton form factors and for the cross section of the wide angle Compton scattering (WACS) show that the hard two-gluon exchange mechanism (collinear factorization) is still not applicable in the kinematical region where Mandelstam variables s ~ −t ~ −u are about few GeV2 . On the other hand these observables can be described in phenomenological models where spectator quarks are soft which assumes a large contribution due to the soft-overlap mechanism. Observation of an Anomalous Line Shape of theη′π+π−Mass Spectrum near thepp¯Mass Threshold inJ/ψ→γη′π+π−

Using 1.09 x 10(9) J/psi events collected by the BESIII experiment in 2012, we study the J / psi -> gamma eta'pi(+)pi(-) process and observe a significant abrupt change in the slope of the eta'pi(+)pi(-) invariant mass distribution at the proton-antiproton (p (p) over bar) mass threshold. We use two models to characterize the eta'pi(+)pi(-) line shape around 1.85 GeV/c(2): one that explicitly incorporates the opening of a decay threshold in the mass spectrum (Flatte formula), and another that is the coherent sum of two resonant amplitudes. Both fits show almost equally good agreement with data, and suggest the existence of either a broad state around 1.85 GeV/c(2) with strong couplings to t…
