We report results from an updated study of the suppressed decays ${B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}D{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and ${B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{*}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ followed by $D\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, where ${D}^{(*)}$ indicates a ${D}^{(*)0}$ or a ${\overline{D}}^{(*)0}$ meson, and ${D}^{*}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}D{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$ or ${D}^{*}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}D\ensuremath{\gamma}$. These decays are sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity triangle angle $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ due to interference between the $b\ensuremath{\rightarrow}c$ transition ${B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensure…

Recent results from PHENIX on the evolution of hot QCD

2014

The Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider’s (RHIC) energy scan program explores the phase transition between the hadron gas and the quark gluon plasma phases by varying center-of-mass energies from √sNN = 7.7 to 200 GeV and using various system sizes. The nuclear modification factor of π0 and the azimuthal anisotropy of charged hadrons were measured in Au+Au collisions at c.m. energies √sNN = 39, 62.4 and 200 GeV. In addition, we present recent results of direct photon yield and anisotropy measurements in Au+Au collisions at c.m. energy √sNN = 200 GeV.

Inclusive D* Production in Photon-Photon Collisions at Next-to-Leading Order QCD

2001

The next-to-leading order cross section for the inclusive production of charm quarks in gamma-gamma collisions is calculated as a function of the transverse momentum pT and the rapidity y in approaches using massive or massless charm quarks. For the direct cross section we derive the massless limit from the massive theory with the result that this limit differs from the massless version with MSbar factorization by finite corrections. Subtracting or adding these corrections allows us to compare the two approaches on equal footing. We establish massless and massive versions with 3 and 4 initial flavours which are shown to approach the massless approximations very fast with increasing pT. With…

Tau hadronic branching ratios

1996

From 64492 selected tau-pair events, produced at the Zeta(o) resonance, the measurement of the tau decays into hadrons from a global analysis using 1991, 1992 and 1993 ALEPH data is presented. Special emphasis is given to the reconstruction of photons and pi(o)'s, and the removal of fake photons. A detailed study of the systematics entering the pi(o) reconstruction is also given. A complete and consistent set of tau hadronic branching ratios is presented for 18 exclusive modes. Most measurements are more precise than the present world average. The new level of precision reached allows a stringent test of tau - mu universality in hadronic decays, g(tau)/g(mu) = 1.0013 +/- 0.0095, and the fir…

Two-photon exchange in elastic electron-proton scattering: a QCD factorization approach.

2009

We estimate the two-photon exchange contribution to elastic electron-proton scattering at large momentum transfer $Q^2$. It is shown that the leading two-photon exchange amplitude behaves as $1/Q^4$ relative to the one-photon amplitude, and can be expressed in a model independent way in terms of the leading twist nucleon distribution amplitudes. Using several models for the nucleon distribution amplitudes, we provide estimates for existing data and for ongoing experiments.

Determination of 55-155-155-1in second order QCD from hadronic Z decays

1992

Distributions of event shape variables obtained from 120600 hadronic Z decays measured with the DELPHI detector are compared to the predictions of QCD based event generators. Values of the strong coupling constant αs are derived as a function of the renormalization scale from a quantitative analysis of eight hadronic distributions. The final result, αs(MZ), is based on second order perturbation theory and uses two hadronization corrections, one computed with a parton shower model and the other with a QCD matrix element model. © 1992 Springer-Verlag.

QCD Radiative Correction to Zero Recoil Sum Rules for Heavy Flavor Transitions in the Small Velocity Limit.

1995

We consider the small velocity sum rules for heavy flavour semileptonic transitions that are used to estimate the zero recoil values of semileptonic heavy flavour form factors. We analyze the complete O($\alpha _S$) radiative correction to these sum rules. The corrections are universal and influence all "model-independent" bounds previously derived for semileptonic form factors at zero recoil.

Angular distribution of inclusive lepton pairs from heavy quarkonium decay

1983

We calculate polar and azimuthal angular distributions of inclusive lepton pairs in the decay $$Q\bar Q(1^{ - - } ) \to 1^ + 1^ - + X$$ from the first order QCD process $$Q\bar Q(1^{ - - } ) \to 1^ + 1^ - + gg$$ . We provide opening angle distributions of the lepton pair in order to assess the measurability of the lepton pairs.

Semileptonic decays of charmed mesons in the effective action of QCD

2001

Within the framework of phenomenological Lagrangians we construct the effective action of QCD relevant for the study of semileptonic decays of charmed mesons. Hence we evaluate the form factors of D -> P(0^-) l^+ nu_l at leading order in the 1/N_C expansion and, by demanding their QCD-ruled asymptotic behaviour, we constrain the couplings of the Lagrangian. The features of the model-independent parameterization of form factors provided and their relevance for the analysis of experimental data are pointed out.
