In-Between: Genre and Gender Hybridity, and Pirkko Saisio's NovelPunainen erokirja
2012
This article discusses intersections of genres and genders and their theorization in the contemporary literary scene and suggests a queer reading of a short-listed contemporary Finnish novel, written by the well-known author and theatre figure Pirkko Saisio. The aim of the article is to present feminist genre theories, influenced by Bakhtinian conception of genres, Foucauldian and Butlerian theorizations of genders and sexualities, and the critical discussions in queer studies. The article reads Saisio's novel as a demonstration through an adaptation of a theoretical concept, namely genre hybridity, combined with another concept adaptation, gender hybridity. The article concludes by suggest…
Vielfalt* lehren – sexuelle und geschlechtliche Vielfalt im Studium der Grundschulpädagogik
2021
This article takes instances of discrimination and coming out experiences of young queer people as a starting point in order to focus on the field of sexual and gender diversity at the elementary/primary school level. Thus, the author examines laws and regulations of schools and universities regarding their general implementation of sex-education, and in relation to gender and sexual diversity in particular. The article proposes an outline that recommends implementing an interdisciplinary and heteronormative critical sex-education with which gender is posited as an identity marker within a discourse around inclusion and diversity. The article proposes an outline that recommends implementing…
Korpusavusteinen diskurssintutkimus (CADS): analyysiesimerkki homouden ja heterouden digitaalisista diskursseista
2018
The article aims at combining two methodological approaches, namely corpus linguistics and discourse studies. Both of these approaches are present in corpus-assisted discourse studies (CADS) which makes use of both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. First, an attempt is made to discuss the differences and similarities of these two traditions based on Leech’s (2000) listing. However, it turns out that this listing does not include all necessary viewpoints, and those are further discussed. In the empirical section of the paper, the Suomi24 corpus is analysed in order to provide an example of CADS. The analysis was carried out through collocation and discourse prosody analyses. The re…

Vivere come donne in India: l'insolito genere delle comunità hijra
2021
The study aims to investigate the history and practices that characterize hijra communities in India in order to shed light on the specific reality of these heterogeneous communities of individuals who are placed outside the heteronormative identity codes, but who have historically been included within Indian society, with very specific roles, thanks to the elaboration of the notion of tṛtīya prakṛti (third gender). However, historical events, especially since the British colonial period, have made the position of hijras increasingly marginal: the various forms of discrimination and violence, which take place within the family of origin, the health system, and society in general, were furth…
