Oral health and oral health-related quality of life in patients with oral dystonia indicates their need for dental special care.

2020

Background This retrospective study aimed in the evaluation of oral health and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of patients with oral dystonia (OD). Material and Methods Seventeen patients with OD (Meige Syndrome: n=11, Oromandibular Dystonia: n=6) were included, of which seven were examined again at three months after botulinum toxin injection. OHRQoL was assessed by the German short form of oral health impact profile (OHIP G14). Within oral examination, dental parameters, remaining teeth and periodontitis severity were assessed. A matched healthy control (HC) was composed for comparison. Results The OD patients had significantly more carious teeth (0.94 ± 1.75 vs. 0; p<0.01), …

Validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the orthognathic quality of life questionnaire in patients with dentofacial deformity

2021

Due to the lack of a specific quality of life (QoL) survey on dentofacial deformities (DFD) for Turkish speakers, the present research aimed to perform a translation of the English version of the Orthognathic Quality of Life Questionnaire (OQLQ) into Turkish (the OQLQ-TR) and provide cultural adaptation to the Turkish population. The process of this cross-cultural adaptation followed the six stages given in the guidelines that were proposed by Beaton et al. (2000), which comprised the following: 1) performing the initial translation, 2) synthesizing the translation, 3) performing the back translation, 4) presenting it to the expert committee, and 5) testing the prefinal version. Assessing therapist development: Reliability and validity of the Supervisee Levels Questionnaire (SLQ-R).

2019

BACKGROUND Therapist development is a crucial target for clinical training in order to ensure high-quality psychotherapy. A major challenge in examining therapeutic development is the assessment of developmental processes. The Supervisee Levels Questionnaire (SLQ-R) was analyzed in this study to examine its validity, reliability, and underlying dimensional structure. METHOD Seven hundred and sixty therapists participated in an online survey concerning their current psychotherapy training. The factor structure as well as the validity of the SLQ-R were investigated using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. RESULTS In line with the results of the exploratory factor analyses, a Bifact…

Later-life depressive symptoms and anxiety attacks in displaced and nondisplaced populations

2021

Abstract Background Forced displacement has been suggested as a potential cause for depression and anxiety in later life. Little research has been done on the influence of the host country's socio-political system. Here we examine whether the later-life effects of displacement on mental health (i.e. depressive symptoms and anxiety attacks) differ between socio-political contexts. We hypothesized that between-group differences (displaced vs. nondisplaced) in self-rated depression scores and frequencies of anxiety attacks are more pronounced in East versus West German populations. Methods Datasets from three representative nationwide surveys (2002, 2003, 2007) were analyzed; study participant…

Childhood Trauma increases suicidal behaviour in a treatment-resistant depression population: a FACE-DR report

2021

International audience; Objective: In addition to heredity, exposure to early-life adversity is an important predisposing risk factor of suicidal behaviour. Although the association between Childhood Trauma (CT) and suicide risk is well documented, interactions between CT and suicidal behaviour in Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD) populations have received little coverage. This study aimed to evaluate i) association between CT and suicidal behaviour in a TRD population, and ii) the role of personality traits and impulsiveness as potential factors of mediation in these associations. Methods: Patients were recruited from a cohort of the French network of TRD expert centers. Depressive sympt…

STUDENTS’ READINESS FOR MASSIVE OPEN ONLINE COURSES (MOOCS) IN LATVIA

2020

MOOCs have gained popularity increasingly more and more with their open online approach and mass engagement. They could play an important role in higher education. But the question remains whether students are ready for it. The aim of the study was to find out what students' understanding of online learning was and to what extent they were prepared for MOOCs. A research question was raised: there is a relationship among technical competencies, socio-communication competencies, self-efficacy, self-directedness and MOOCs readiness. The survey-monkey's electronic platform was used for data extraction. Open-ended questions were asked on the 4-point Likert scale. According to the research questi…

Correlations between Diabetes Mellitus Self-Care Activities and Glycaemic Control in the Adult Population: A Cross-Sectional Study

2022

Although it is well known that lifestyle changes can affect plasma glucose levels, there is little formal evidence for the sustained effectiveness of exercise and diet in diabetes mellitus (DM) management. Self-care in DM refers to the real-life application of the knowledge that the patient gained during the education programmes. The goals are to bring about changes in the patient’s behaviour, thus improving glycaemic control. We evaluated the influence of DM self-care activities (SCA) on glycaemic control in a total of 159 patients with DM. Plasma glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) levels were used to monitor glycaemic control, while SCA were assessed using the standardised Diabetes Self-M…

Factors Affecting Mobile Diabetes Monitoring Adoption Among Physicians: Questionnaire Study and Path Model

2012

BackgroundPatients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes often find it difficult to control their blood glucose level on a daily basis because of distance or physical incapacity. With the increase in Internet-enabled smartphone use, this problem can be resolved by adopting a mobile diabetes monitoring system. Most existing studies have focused on patients’ usability perceptions, whereas little attention has been paid to physicians’ intentions to adopt this technology. ObjectiveThe aim of the study was to evaluate the perceptions and user acceptance of mobile diabetes monitoring among Japanese physicians. MethodsA questionnaire survey of physicians was conducted in Japan. The structured questionna…

Diagnosis of Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS): The Salerno Experts’ Criteria

2015

Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) is a syndrome characterized by intestinal and extra-intestinal symptoms related to the ingestion of gluten-containing food, in subjects that are not affected by either celiac disease or wheat allergy. Given the lack of a NCGS biomarker, there is the need for standardizing the procedure leading to the diagnosis confirmation. In this paper we report experts' recommendations on how the diagnostic protocol should be performed for the confirmation of NCGS. A full diagnostic procedure should assess the clinical response to the gluten-free diet (GFD) and measure the effect of a gluten challenge after a period of treatment with the GFD. The clinical evaluation i…
