Product selectivity effects during cracking of alkanes at very short and longer times on stream

1996

Abstract Cracking of C 7 , C 10 , C 12 and C 14 n-alkanes, over USY, Beta and ZSM-5 zeolites was carried out in a reaction system which allows to obtain instantaneous conversions at very short times on stream. With this system the influence of operation variables, chain length of the paraffin fed, and catalyst structure on product selectivity was established. Positive and negative effects of catalyst decay on product selectivity were obtained, and this behaviour could be simulated by using a deactivation model in which the rate of deactivation depends on the product concentration. It was observed that olefin/paraffin, branched/normal paraffin, branched/normal olefin ratios and aromatic sele…

Evaluation of Spanish hospitals participating in the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative program.

2020

222 Background: Measuring and tracking quality of care is highly relevant in today’s healthcare. The Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) program is a referral for evaluating oncology practices worldwide. The ECO Foundation (Excellence and Quality in Oncology), a collaboration of oncology experts from the major Spanish hospitals involved in cancer treatment, reached an agreement with ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology) to include Spanish hospitals in its QOPI program. Methods: We analyzed the results of the QOPI core module measures from 19 Spanish hospitals submitting their data in nine rounds (from Fall 2015 to Fall 2019). Results: Of the 19 hospitals, 15 participated mor…

Improved Performance in Quadrotor Trajectory Tracking Using MIMO PIλ-D Control

2022

This paper aims to develop a fractional control approach for quadrotor trajectory tracking. A fractional-order integrator (PIλ) with a feedback derivative scheme is designed to control each state of the MIMO system. The designed feedback controller stabilizes the initially unstable decoupled states and widens the stability, while PIλ provides precise trajectory tracking capabilities. After a successful simulation study, the new PIλ-D controller is implemented in the hardware environment. The various performance and load disturbance analyses reveal the effectiveness of the proposed scheme compared with the classical PD/PID controllers. The real-time study also shows that this scheme is a sim…

Image processing applications in object detection and graph matching : from Matlab development to GPU framework

2020

Automatically finding correspondences between object features in images is of main interest for several applications, as object detection and tracking, flow velocity estimation, identification, registration, and many derived tasks. In this thesis, we address feature correspondence within the general framework of graph matching optimization and with the principal aim to contribute, at a final step, to the design of new and parallel algorithms and their implementation on GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) systems. Graph matching problems can have many declinations, depending on the assumptions of the application at hand. We observed a gap between applications based on local cost objective functio…

Greedy and K-Greedy algoritmhs for multidimensional data association

2011

[EN] The multidimensional assignment (MDA) problem is a combinatorial optimization problem arising in many applications, for instance multitarget tracking (MTT). The objective of an MDA problem of dimension $d\in\Bbb{N}$ is to match groups of $d$ objects in such a way that each measurement is associated with at most one track and each track is associated with at most one measurement from each list, optimizing a certain objective function. It is well known that the MDA problem is NP-hard for $d\geq3$. In this paper five new polynomial time heuristics to solve the MDA problem arising in MTT are presented. They are all based on the semi-greedy approach introduced in earlier research. Experimen…

Impact of incentives on tourist activity in space-time

2020

Abstract No tourism study to date, has examined the ability of incentives to shape the spatio-temporal behaviour of tourists. Data collected from the port of Palermo in Sicily (Italy), using traditional survey instruments as well as GPS technology, was employed to investigate the effect of incentives on cruise passengers' space-time activities. The results show the incentives' clear and significant impact in influencing the space-time activities of cruise passengers' while visiting the city. Understanding the movement patterns of visitors at destinations can give destination managers information that can assist in dealing with the negative effects of overtourism that are caused due to high …

Cumbersome but desirable—Breaking the code of everyday cycling

2020

IntroductionCycling for transport could integrate physical activity (PA) into daily routines and potentially increase total PA levels. However, for parents with young children, most factors affecting transport mode choice tend to facilitate car use. Greater insight is necessary into reasons for (not) using sustainable transport modes in parents with young children. Therefore, the objective of this study was to explore the experiences, including motives, perceptions, attitudes, and norms, of parents of young children by using an e-bike, a longtail bike, and a traditional bike for everyday travel to the workplace, kindergarten, and the grocery store during the autumn, winter, and spring, in n…

Measurements of the branching fractions and bounds on the charge asymmetries of charmless three-body charged B decays.

2003

We present measurements of branching fractions and charge asymmetries for charmless B-meson decays to three-body final states of charged pions and kaons. The analysis uses 81.8 fb^-1 of data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BaBar detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric B Factory. We measure the branching fractions B(B+ -> pi+ pi- pi+) = (10.9 +/- 3.3 +/- 1.6) x 10^-6, B(B+ -> K+ pi- pi+) = (59.1 +/- 3.8 +/- 3.2) x 10^-6, and B(B+ -> K+ K- K+) = (29.6 +/- 2.1 +/- 1.6) x 10^-6, and provide 90% C.L. upper limits for other decays. We observe no charge asymmetries for these modes.

The beam and detector of the NA62 experiment at CERN

2017

NA62 is a fixed-target experiment at the CERN SPS dedicated to measurements of rare kaon decays. Such measurements, like the branching fraction of the $K^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{+} \nu \bar\nu$ decay, have the potential to bring significant insights into new physics processes when comparison is made with precise theoretical predictions. For this purpose, innovative techniques have been developed, in particular, in the domain of low-mass tracking devices. Detector construction spanned several years from 2009 to 2014. The collaboration started detector commissioning in 2014 and will collect data until the end of 2018. The beam line and detector components are described together with their early …
