In-situ polymerization of polyaniline in radiation functionalized polypropylene films

Abstract In-situ generation of a nanodispersed conductive polymer within a polypropylene matrix has been pursued in order to obtain flexible, conductive films. Radiation grafting of acrylic acid to polypropylene (PP) has been applied to insert carboxyl functionalities on PP. The radiation-grafted films have been further derivatized with a variety of diamines and used as substrates for in-situ chemical oxidative polymerization of polyaniline (PANI). PANI grows as a thin skin from the surface of the film as well as an interpenetrated network in its interiors. By applying immunologic, electrophoretic and enzymatic methods, extracts of different raft types of Culex pipiens were analysed. Rafts of the crosses Pa x Pa and Ha x Ha contained four common antigens, while unfertilized rafts of Pa and Ha (no antisera were prepared against them) and rafts of the crosses Og x Og, Og x Pa, and Pa x Og shared three common antigens with the remaining raft extracts. Disk-electrophoresis of raft extracts in acrylamide gel resulted in different electropherograms. Ten protein bands were common to all these raft types. Xenograft rejection in marine sponges. Isolation and purification of an inhibitory aggregation factor from Geodia cydonium.

In sponges there exists a graft rejection mechanism in which an inhibitory aggregation factor is involved. The inhibitory aggregation factor has been isolated from a culture medium containing dissociated cells of the sponge Geodia cydonium. Using ion-exchange and gel fractionation the factor was purified and shown to be electrophoretically pure. The factor has a molecular weight of 27000 and was characterized as a glycoprotein. The activity of the inhibitory aggregation factor was not affected by heat treatment, but treatment with trichloroacetic acid resulted in the irreversible loss of activity. Chiral complexes of BINOL-based ligands with hafnium tert-butoxide catalyze the enantioselective Friedel-Crafts alkylation of indoles with (E)-1,4-diaryl-2-butene-1,4-diones at room temperature, with good yields and ee up to 94%. Hafnium(IV) was found to be a more effective Lewis acid than other frequently used metal ions such as titanium(IV) or zirconium(IV). Unlike the enantioselective Friedel-Crafts alkylation of indoles with α,β-unsaturated compounds where the stereogenic center is generated in the β-position to a carbonyl group, the Friedel-Crafts alkylation with 2-butene-1,4-diones described here generates an α-stereogenic center with respect to one of the carbonyl groups. Versatile Synthesis of Functional Gold Nanoparticles: Grafting Polymers From and Onto

Functionalized gold nanoparticles have been prepared in an organic solvent by a two-phase reduction method in ethyl acetate and water using bis(6-hydroxyhexyl) disulfide bis(2-bromoisobutyl) ester, bis(6-acetyloxyhexyl) disulfide, and bis(5-carboxypentyl) disulfide bis(pentafluorophenyl) ester as stabilizing ligands. This procedure features the advantages that no phase transfer agent was necessary during the preparation of the gold nanoparticles and that the reducing conditions were mild enough to utilize functional disulfide ligands. Structure of Polymer-Grafted Nanoparticle Melts.

The structure of neat melts of polymer-grafted nanoparticles (GNPs) is studied via coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations. We systematically vary the degree of polymerization and grafting density at fixed nanoparticle (NP) radius and study in detail the shape and size of the GNP coronas. For sufficiently high grafting density, chain sections close to the NP core are extended and form a dry layer. Further away from the NP, there is an interpenetration layer, where the polymer coronas of neighboring GNPs overlap and the chain sections have almost unperturbed conformations. Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) are unique, renewable top-down nano particles from which coatings with improved gas barrier properties and new functionalities can be prepared. In this paper, the potential for obtaining such high performing nanocrystals from low-cost lignocellulosic by-products or raw materials is proved by a comparison study on CNCs obtained both from cotton linters and kraft pulp, by means of the ammonium persulfate (APS) process. Synthesis of Processable Inorganic‐Organic Hybrid Polymers Based on Poly(silsesquioxanes): Grafting from Polymerization Using ATRP

Inorganic-organic hybrid polymers have been synthesized utilizing atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) from a functionalized poly(methylsilsesquioxane) (PMSSQ) macroinitiator. Different polymeric ATRP initiators were prepared by co-condensation of functionalized trichlorosilanes with methyltrimethoxysilane. Various vinyl monomers have been successfully grafted from these macroinitiators, demonstrating a highly variable synthetic concept, which offers the chance to synthesize a wide spectrum of inorganic-organic hybrid polymers. Abstract In situ gel forming systems have been prepared by linking polylactic acid (PLA) to a water soluble and polyfunctional polymer, such as α,β-poly( N -2-hydroxyethyl)- d , l -aspartamide (PHEA). Three graft copolymers PHEA–PLA with a different derivatization degree in PLA, have been synthesized and characterized. PHEA–PLA graft copolymer with the highest amount in PLA has been used to prepare solutions in organic solvents able to give rise to gel-like matrices when injected into phosphate buffered saline solution.
