Spectral analysis and quantum chaos in two-dimensional nanostructures

This thesis describes a study into the eigenvalues and eigenstates of twodimensional (2D) quantum systems. The research is summarized in four scientific publications by the author. The underlying motivation for this work is the grand question of quantum chaos: how does chaos, as known in classical mechanics, manifest in quantum mechanics? The search and analysis of these quantum fingerprints of chaos requires efficient numerical tools and methods, the development of which is given a special emphasis in this thesis. Heinolan kirkonkylän siunauskappeli ja uusi hautausmaa 1910-2010

Tarkastelen pro gradu työssäni Heinolan kirkonkylän siunauskappelia ja sen vieressä sijaitsevaa Uusi hautausmaa -nimistä hautausmaata. Lähtökohtana oli, että Suomessa on tehty tutkimusta siunauskappeleista varsin vähän ja tämän tutkimuskentän laajentaminen on yksi tämän työn tavoitteista. Vähäisestä kirjallisesta materiaalista johtuen suurin osa tämän työn kirjallisista lähteistä on koottu Heinolan seurakuntayhtymän arkistoista, jossa on perehdytty nimenomaan siunauskappeliin ja hautausmaahan liittyviin seurakunnan kokousten pöytäkirjamerkintöihin. Oxides are an important class of materials and are widely used, for example, as supports in heterogeneous catalysis. In a number of industrial catalytic processes, oxide supports actively participate in chemical transformations by releasing lattice oxygen anions. While this is intuitively understood for reducible oxides, the reducibility of irreducible oxides may be modified via nanoengineering or upon inclusion of foreign species. Our calculations predict that the ability of irreducible monoclinic zirconia to release oxygen improves substantially upon deposition of rhodium.
